I just purchased one of these a few days ago to get accurate measurements around necklines and arm holes.  This video is a brilliant tutorial on how to use it in a way I didn’t expect.  Just as an added tip, I read years ago in a Vogue pant fitting article that the best way to find that exact center crotch point is to suspend something from a string (anything with a hole in it that will move freely on the string, like a pendant).  Hold one end at center front, passing through the crotch area to center back.  You could tie off one end to a belt around your waist.  Make sure the “pendant” is sliding freely along the string to find its center, then pull up one of the ends snugly and mark the spot.  Using a fabric tape measure would work great.  Take note of the center front to crotch, center back to crotch, and the entire crotch depth from center back to center front.  If you’ve measured correctly, the separate front and back measurements will equal the total measurement and you can have confidence in the measurements.

I used this ruler for my horse’s back to fit his saddle. I don’t know 🤷🏼‍♀️ why I didn’t think to use it for this! Genius!!!🎉❤

I'm am seriously looking into sewing my own clothes. I'm a quilter and haven't sewing clothes in 50 yrs because nothing ever  fit right. I have learned so much watching videos such as yours that I feel confident enough to try again. Thank you. And I will be purchasing one of those rules!

I've ordered two of these rulers. One 30cm and one 60cm long. The longest will make it possible to measure the whole crotch seam at once 👌
