Definitely do not buy in the sales as you’ll just be going backwards. You’ve probably got at least 5 years worth of some of your items - just think how much money you’ll save.
I was like this 4 years ago, my best piece of advice is DONT say "I'll buy my favs during the sale" there will always be another sale. Wait till 2027 and recheck your inventory and see what progress you've actually made and it will motivate you so much!! I am now obsessed with using up my current products and only buy things maybe once a year.
In December '25 decluttered a total of 50 body creams that were getting old and starting to separate. My mom took them to work and left them in the ladies room. The next day she found a 📝 saying "Whoever left these in here I literally love you." Those college girlies didn't care...they just shook them up and used them. This month I decluttered a bunch of junk food and drinks. I just left them on the sign-in desk a work and 📝 said "Help Yourself". They were all gone by the next day. Next month I'll pull at least 25 body washes and take them to a women's shelter. You've inspired me to take inventory and go on this journey with you. I wish I hadn't used food and shopping to deal with my feelings, but I'm glad I didn't turn to drugs. 💪 We got this Ambie!
I've been working through my products for about 5 years now, and I've gotten to the point where I clearly have favorites so I'm less and less interested in trying new stuff. One recommendation I have: as you're using products or after you finish something, start a google sheet or a spreadsheet and record the product, how you felt about it, and a column for yes/no whether you'd buy it again. It's easy to forget how you feel about some things and I have repurchased stuff that I forgot that I finished and hated. Now if I want to buy something new I look back on my spreadsheet and I can easily avoid the things I know I hated or just felt "meh" about. Over time and when you have a lot of products it's just easy to forget, you know? Good luck, I too developed a shopping and eating problem after my Dad died, I'm clawing my way out. Steady progress....
Just a thought: you have such a nice collection and if much of it is still unopened, you could spend the year giving your friends and family curated gift baskets. ❤
I have several nieces so it’s easy for me to declutter. I create ziploc baggies of miscellaneous items for them periodically and they are so appreciative.
I'm rooting for you! You can do this! I would definitely recommend a "no buy" for you and not give into those sales. You have your own shop to pull from. I started my own Project Pan in September and found on average it takes 4 to 5 months just through get through one body lotion or face wash, etc. I believe in you. Be patient. Be strong!! I will be following your journey.
I think you should lower the number of products you try to use up. If you use 6 or so face masks at the same time, you will get discouraged that you do not finish anything.
As some people commented, some cheap stuff from dollar tree, you can take it to work and maybe leave some near the areas where people wash their hands. I am also panning, but mainly to work out my routine and find what I really like - however when picking next item I would rather pick up the most expensive one from my collection than the cheapest one. Mainly because while you work on cheap stuff the nice stuff is expiring in the background and as one panning lady said - you are the special occasion so use your nice stuff.
Chose one face routine, shower and after shower routine etc. Mark when you started and then see how long it takes for one product to finish completely. Then see the expiry dates, or when you believe somehing will expire. Recalculate how much you can keep and donate the rest. Otherwise you will have to throw away a lot. I think this is more then 5 years worth across all categories. You got this!
The other day I inventoried my makeup. I’m in a use it up era as well. I had 223 items. I may had a few more lip balms missing as well as a few new products that will be coming which resulted in about 230 items. The other day I was visiting with a coworker. I asked her if she’d like a few of my eyeshadows. She said sure. I brought them to work. We went through them. She picked eight. I also shared with another coworker that I brought my makeup. She mentioned she wanted some and that she’d like a blush. I picked out some eyeshadows for her which ended up being five. I may end up actually decluttering one or two more items. Currently I think I have 30 eyeshadow not counting my eye shadow palettes.
1)You can use some toners and hand sanitizers as temporary cleaning solutions (especially if it has alcohol or witch hazel)…for lens, phone screen, keep it in your car to do a quick wipe of surfaces 2) Lotions and body butters as shave creams 3) Dollar tree mists as after poo sprays for your toilet or public restrooms or as an air freshener 4) for hand soaps you can dilute them and spray to clean windows or clean your bathrooms with it 5) mascara to tame flyaways or hide grey hair 6) cut up bar soaps into small cubes and add to your flush tank 7) And for the BIGGEST ADVICE…GIVE AWAY/THROW OUT stuff that doesn’t work for you! You don’t have to use something that your skin/hair doesn’t like
