During the night of September 20–21, 2026, hundreds of Ukrainian long-range drones took off from multiple launch areas, flying just above the terrain toward targets hundreds of miles inside Russia.

What began as a massive low-altitude drone raid quickly turned into a complex battle against Russia’s air defense network. ZU-23-2 crews, mobile fire groups, Tor-M1s, Buk-M3s, Pantsirs and S-400 units attempted to stop the incoming waves — while decoys, relay drones and terrain-hugging flight paths complicated the defense.

As Russian air defense systems revealed their positions, some Ukrainian drones turned from their original routes and attacked the systems themselves. A Tor-M1 was struck after engaging an incoming FP-1, a Buk-M3 position was targeted after repeated radar emissions, and a Nebo-U early-warning radar was hit, weakening the wider air-defense picture.

Then the main strike began.

Drones penetrated toward Moscow and hit the Gazpromneft Moscow Refinery in Kapotnya, targeting critical processing equipment rather than simple fuel-storage tanks. Other groups continued hundreds of miles farther east toward Samara and Ufa, where additional oil refining facilities came under attack.

By the morning of September 21, what had begun as several separate drone formations had turned into a coordinated series of strikes stretching across more than 1,000 kilometers of Russian territory.

This video reconstructs how such a large-scale operation could unfold based on available reports and technical information. Some sequences, locations and tactical details are reconstructed or dramatized for educational and visual clarity.
