The final section of our Kalaallit (Greenland) Rolling Course explores the sculling family of rolls and manoeuvres.

Sculling is a fundamental part of Greenland kayaking, offering continuous support from the paddle and opening up a whole range of different ways to move, balance and recover your kayak.

In this section, we look at four key sculling techniques:

• Layback Sculling – using the back float position to maintain balance and support.
• Chest Sculling – sculling face-down and developing control for forward-finishing rolls.
• On-Deck Sculling Roll – a challenging roll requiring a strong and precise blade angle.
• Under-Hull Sculling Roll – an advanced technique where the paddle is used beneath the hull to bring you back upright.

We also explore the principles behind an efficient sculling motion and how developing a good blade angle and movement can help you create continuous support from the paddle.

This final section builds on the roll families covered earlier in the course, including front-to-back, back-to-front and front-to-front rolls, bringing together the skills needed to explore Greenland rolling in greater depth.

The Kalaallit (Greenland) Rolling Course takes you through a comprehensive progression of Greenland rolling techniques, helping you develop your understanding, technique and confidence both on and off the water.
