That's a beautiful Allegro.

Nice work Harry! I think the Allegro design has aged really well - it actually seems as if it was ahead of it's time. It's not dissimilar in shape to my Citroen Cactus.

I remember when they came out the only silly idea was the oval steering wheel they were a good reliable motor .the 1750c. Was a flier .it always amazed me how people that have never owned or driven cars of that era particularly British cars run then down

Nice one, enjoyed that. The old Agro deserves a bit of love!

Nice video. A bit of a strange one that car, 1300 according to the boot badge but must be either 1500 or 1750 since it has an E series fitted presumably complete with 5 speed gearbox. Someone must have fitted over size wheels since the tyres shouldn't foul the wheel arch even with collapsed suspension I would have thought.
It's of course Hydragas for Allego (not Hydrolastic suspension which was associated with ADO 16).
One of the best features of the Allego is they didn't rust quickly like their predecessor the 1100 / 1300, ADO 16 which were known for rotting thanks to Sir Alex Issigonis refusing to take Pressed Steel's advice to design out the rust traps before launching the cars.

ACTUALLY, the fancy wheels would look even better on the Vanden Plas, with its fancy grille!

I never knew that there was a JPS Allegro, I only remember the Capri JPS.

Love this little Allegro

Drove one in the 70s it was actually pretty reliable and no worse than any other car of the era ! It was just the media couldn’t wait to bash any British made car when it came out

I have fond memories of the Allegro, unofficially learnt to drive in one at the age of 14, no cameras in those days and all kids had beards by 14, then had the 1750 special as a courtesy car years later. They weren't the worst cars just antiquated compared to the opposition, I can think of a dozen modern luxury models which are comparatively worse with inherent design and mechanical flaws. I think the Allegro wrongly got bad press on the back of BL and it's cost cutting? The engines were tried and tested units as was the suspension, just 20 years too late!

Looks very promising. They weren't the worst car in the world that was just media propaganda in the day. I love the car already, good luck with the restoration.

At least they were cars you could maintain with a regular tool kit.

Famous door handles

Was still roadworthy in 2018 according to the Mot History

Always loved the estate version, always fancied a metalic British racing green with gold pinstrips.

Great video I used to really dislike these in the 1970s but this looks kinda cool now. Good luck with fixing it,

Cleaned up rather nicely! Unfortunately I’d request a new number plate !

Nice to see the allegro out, its a cool car

Definately worth saving.

i love it!! had one as my first car. comfy and reliable to be honest!! this sounds lovely! please keep her as she will be a great runabout for you
