This happened to me once in late 2018.  After the burial of my bil, I & my hubby were asked to pick up some food my sis ordered for the meal after the burial.  We put the address in Google Map and followed the directions which took us to a cemetery!  We stopped on the street and stared at the map and it was indicating to go into the cemetery.  We looked at each other in confusion (& a little creeped out) because there's clearly a cemetery and NOT a restaurant where the map was indicating (& we did type in the address correctly---triple checked it)!  We called my sis for confirmation of the address again and what area it was supposed to be at.  We drove away from the cemetery towards the area we knew from my sis's description.  Once we were near the area, we typed in the address and this time it brought us to the right place.  It was super bizarre because our Google Map has never done anything weird like that before or since.

Omg, this reminded me of my trip to MN in 2011.  The GPS took my husband and I to a dead end farm area.  It was late at night so all I remember was we came to a stop of a dead end corns.  We had to reverse drive back until the road was wide enough for us to do a u-turn.  The 4 and half drives turned into an 8 hours drive.

In the 2010s, my flight landed close to midnight and I rented a car by myself. Somewhere between Charlotte and Hickory North Carolina, GPS took me to a very dark location with no lights around, except for what I could see in front of me with my headlights on. I wasted no time to use my memory to get myself out and back on the highway.  I kept driving, said nothing and told no one until I got to my destination with a reroute, as I’ve been traveling between these two cities several times in my life with no issues. All my flights after that are during the day time, unless I was with other people.

This is why sometimes I don’t rely on gps. I’m a medical transportation driver and sometimes I have to go to little town which I have never heard before or been too. The gps will tell me it’s rerouting me because I don’t have service out in the country or area but before I leave to pick up my client, I usually get on my computer and look at the town or pick up address before hand incase something like this sister experiences happen to me so I know how to get back on the main road. I had some similar experience before someday I’ll have to send in my stories.

This has happened to my husband and I.  It was a late night and we ended up at the country side. My husband called this the GPS ASS...LOL... you can't always trust GPS sometimes..glad you found your way home.

Wow that's pretty scary, I never like driving alone at night  especially longer than 30minutes. At  night things and  places are always looked distorted.

Yes, now the maps are more accurate but I still won't trust it 100%. I don't remember when this happened to her but my cousin told me that gps took her to a cemetery with 1 way in, 1 way out and it was getting dark. Pretty spooky.

It happened to me, too in the early day of the portable plug-in car GPS and even today in my smart iPhone & smart 2025 4runner SUV GPS. Often time it is a mis-spelling on the name of place, street, and address I entered. The only way to get yourself to the right route is to clear your GPS history and power-off. Then turn back on and go find a location that has enough internet bandwidth for the satellites to recalculate your route.
