Our day begins at 6:45 AM out in the garden. 🌿✨
Before breakfast is served, the early morning starts with real homestead work: tending to the crops, handling the banana suckers, looking after the animals, and taking in quiet details of nature, like a garden snail resting on a fresh green leaf.
After completing the chores on the land, the focus shifts to our outdoor kitchen. Phiona sets up the ingredients to make fresh village chapatis from scratch—sifting wheat flour, beating in eggs, adding baking powder for softness, and balancing it with a pinch of salt.
As the morning progresses, everyone on the compound has a part to play:Fred splits dry firewood and kindles the traditional stone stove so the pan gets hot.Our loyal dog Max keeps Phiona company, relaxing peacefully by the hearth. The granddaughters, Denizi (Phiona’s daughter on the left) and Angel (on the right), bring joy to the yard.Sam finds a peaceful corner to hone his traditional drumming rhythms.
Community spirit comes alive as our neighbor and family friend Muwanga steps in to help fry the chapatis.Mama Viola lights the stove to brew hot black tea, served with rich, creamy slices of fresh avocado.
From breaking ground at 6:45 AM to sharing a hot meal made over wood fire, this is the true rhythm of our daily life. Thank you so much for being part of our family journey! ❤️🏡
