Known as “Al Zarqa Boy”, he was kidnapped, tortured, and blinded at just 16 years old, Jordanian Saleh Hamdan became the face of a crime that shocked Jordan and made headlines across the Arab world. His story drew nationwide support, including from King Abdullah II and Queen Rania. Targeted in revenge after his father was imprisoned following a fatal altercation, Saleh was kidnapped in broad daylight by a group of men who broke all ten of his fingers before taking him to an apartment, where they amputated both his hands and blinded him in one eye with a razor blade. Yet in the middle of unimaginable pain, Saleh says his greatest relief was knowing his father would be safe. After being left on the street, he underwent hours of surgery and a long recovery as an entire nation rallied behind him. But his story did not end with the attack. Saleh continued his education and went on to graduate from law school. From surviving an act of brutal revenge to rebuilding his life, this is a story of extraordinary resilience, unbreakable loyalty, and refusing to let tragedy define who you become.
