"Where am I right now?" — This is probably the most important question you have in the mountains.
How accurate is a GPS watch even in densely wooded areas? We measured its accuracy by hiking for a full day, from morning to evening, on Mount Nikko-Shirane (2,578m), the highest peak north of the Kanto region. We checked the results at the summit.

・Suunto Vertical 2 (GPS watch)

Amazon: https://www.amazon.co.jp/dp/B0FPCTBF4...
We used the Suunto Vertical 2. Of the four GPS modes, we used the one that uses the most battery:
Performance (multi-band). The claimed maximum battery life is 65 hours. This is deliberately the most challenging scenario.
── There are only three things to do before heading into the mountains ──
① Download the mountain map using your home Wi-Fi
② Draw the route and send it to your watch
③ Check today's climb using Climb Guidance (route cross-section diagram)
We demonstrate these three steps before departure. I hope you can take at least this part away with you.
── Three things to find answers to today ──
・Location: Compare your current location on the map screen at two locations with completely different conditions (foreground junction / summit)
・Altitude: We climbed without calibrating. What happened after a full day of walking?
・Battery: Performance mode all day. How much did it actually drain?
And at the summit, we'll touch on why this brand has been doing the same thing for 90 years.
The company started with compasses in 1936.
*Don't over-rely on GPS. Carrying a paper map, compass, and a smartphone with a map app is absolutely essential.
