Being able to make our own batteries is what I find best about aluminum batteries.

Good chat👍
Hear in Ontario, Canada, we can do almost anything Electronically in our own homes that we want. Put it in an call ESA( Electrical Safety Authority), book an appointment with fee and they come and inspect and sign off if ok. I did my own L2 charger and hottub wiring, both needed minor alterations, did them, sent update pics to Inspector and he signed off.

Anything gas related is a no go. Certified installers only. Bought a tankless water heater. Frustratingly I could not find anybody that would do just the gas portion, full install only.
Cheers from Canada 🇨🇦

My soda-pop blew up when the can caught an edge as I was trying to throw it into the open fridge from across the room.   Had to get a ladder to wipe down the ceiling!  It was a terrible sight to behold!  Does that count as an aluminum battery?

Oh, nice, thanks for using my comment about the mini-split.   I'm still contemplating DIYing the whole-home heat pump to replace my gas furnace.   The ducting and the circuit is basically already there (just moving the previous A/C circuit over to the heat pump, basically).

But I'll tell you what my current scary hangup is... it's not installation of the heat pump itself, but actually removing the gas furnace.  I will almost certainly hire a professional to disconnect and cap the gas line.

Perfect video to recharge my morning, before my students arrive.

That's sodium battery in the bluetti station was hit with a dozen bullets!!! The guy would not stop shooting until it really blew up!!!

Ha! 5 F cold? That's short weather!

LOL, I love the DAD jokes...

For the discussion about the grid and supply and whatnot: Ercot (Texas only) shows the fuel mix each day, hub pricing, etc all on their website. I've been watching the Fuel Mix religiously as I think its pretty interesting to see how Solar, Wind and storage all interact. The batteries flatten the peaks in morning and evenings (when prices are highest) and look to be charging during the day and at night when prices are lowest. In fact I think that the battery systems are now a high enough draw that they're keeping prices at or above $0 all the time when they would have dipped into negative territory in previous years.

My dad did a DIY for ducted HVAC system back in the late '50s, early '60s era, so we moved from window units only to central in the Dallas/Ft Worth area.  But he also engineered HVAC for Bell Helicopter Corp professionally.  I remember going to the Carrier factory to pick up our units (inside and outside).  He did the electrical too.  His job was being a professional mechanical engineer with HVAC and vibrations specialty.

I have a background in software with some engineering, and would not feel bad doing a MrCool that is very DIY friendly.

Yes, depending on YOUR experience and level of comfort, please be a bit conservative of your talents with things this big.

Gotta have an exhaust hood if cooking with gas, always.  (exhaust to the outside, not just a inside-to-inside filter).  No exceptions.

When homes are too well sealed you need a heat recovery air system to circulate fresh air.  Basically its just a unit with a heat exchanger and a fan that takes outside air in, and inside air out, through a heat exchanger to transfer the heat (or cool) from the exhaust air over to the intake air.  About 60% of the heat/cool can be recovered.

A heavily sealed home can also wind up with serious humidity and moisture problems.  These translate to mold problems which translates directly to serious health problems.

I think the bluetti battery was a different chemistry to the Catl sodium ion.

With CDs, you can theoretically polish the surface of the CD and in most cases this will restore the CD as long as the CD material isn't gouged too deeply and as long as the medium is not cracked or broken. I worked in tech for many decades.  There was this one company that had a mechanical CD polisher in the test department. If you were having problems with CD media that polisher could usually fix it.

If you short out any battery without a fusible link and there is kindling it will start a fire regardless of chemistry or format.

It surprises me that in the US DIY electrical and HVAC is so common.
Whereas here in Australia you are not allowed to do Electrical and Gas without the trade qualification. if your encounter and issue or there is a serious failure that would requires insurance.
If the job was not certified your insurance will Void. Insurance clause will remove cover and if your house burns - your problem no cover.
similarly if a person get injured there is no public liability.
Given the US is so litigious I would have thought the same would apply.

Important if you swap from gas to electric permantly that you cap the gas line... a gas stove dose leak a  very very small amount of gas all the time and if you are swaping to get rid of the problems with gas and the purity of air you need it capped

Or as i used to say aluminimum

The coldness actually lowers the voltage on lithium batteries, that is why you can not get full usage and only half the capacity out of the battery...that might also happen to lead acid batteries...

as a long life starter battery instead of a lead acid battery it might make sense if the price is ok.

I would love for someone to retrofit my model s battery with a 50/50 split sodium and lithium battery for winter driving here in Canada. That way I could start out trips and use the motor waste heat to warm lithium side of battery. Currently i take quite the hit in winter driving to the tune of 40-50%😢

Can you tell YouTube to take off the Ai tab
