A few hours away from Bangkok sits a province most people barely think about — Nakhon Nayok. Known for waterfalls, river rafting, dense greenery… and somehow, a UFO festival.

What started as a trip to Thailand’s strangest festival quickly turned into something much bigger.

Over the next few days, I explored night markets filled with UFO believers, drifted down rivers in brutal heat, cooled off beneath waterfalls, and ate some of the most unexpected food I’ve had in Thailand — from jungle curry and spicy crocodile stir fry to an unforgettable Thai feast packed with soft shell crab curry, wing bean salad, and gaeng ran juan.

Somewhere between the food, the mountains, and people staring quietly into the night sky… this hidden province started feeling far stranger — and far more alive — than I expected.
