What is True Depth?
True Depth is a Blender add-on for turning 2D images into 3D models using monocular depth estimation (based on the Depth-Anything-v2 model).

In this tutorial, we'll go over installation, downloading the AI models, VRAM tips, seamless PBR texturing, camera projection setups, HDRI dome projection and more.
We also show how to run it for free on Hugging Face or locally for higher-res results.

Thanks Gleb for disclosing all of the issues with AI, mentioning licensing and so on. Even though this use-case doesn't really compete with any real art and artists or anything like that. I'm sick of all of these AI hype men in 3d/CG spaces who claim that AI is the future and it's time to AI generate everything and so on.
Like reticently a few prominent youtube "filmmaking" influencers got an AI company sponsorship and they proudly were proclaiming how AI is the future and it's time to do AI instead of VFX in our videos and so on. I'm sure you have these people in your inbox as well, thank you for not selling out.

Way off topic, but id love to see another fire video like the one you did. You made fire in a way I've never seen in blender before. It looked closer to production level than some of the industry tools! I'd love to see your ability to make realistic explosions too. Great video - I didn't want to not comment about the topic. Excellent tool!!

Interesting vid, Gleb! Has some pretty cool features....most excited for the HDRI dome bit.but looking forward to testing out the other features as well.

Will say again, this is one of those uses of AI that I find acceptable due to the outcome being predetermined. Generating numerical values over concepts and ideas. ✅

Actually Photoshop's AI is a bit unclear if it was scraping the internet, they were advertising that it wasn't back when output quality was bad. Then they updated it and improved the quality, and suspiciously stopped saying that it's only based on adobe stock. Not that people who contributed to adobe stock really opted into the AI scraping "non-exclusive use" is just in the small print when you sign up to any platform.
And not that a fill tool is a horrible slop use of so called AI or would even be considered non-fair use of copyrighted material, because it doesn't really compete with the source content.
