We insulated our lime plastered Victorian house with wood fibre boards - first external wall we took it back to brick then quickly realised that wasn’t necessary as the lime was pretty much intact, but after removing the lime we had to repoint the whole brick wall. For other rooms we removed any blown plaster, patched it and boarded straight on 😊 then replastered on top. We didn’t even really notice the space difference, but our neighbours used cork board insulation to retain space. Good luck - it’s a mission but definitely helped us hugely in a drafty old house! (PS, wallpaper stripping gave me some flashbacks 😅)
(PPS, we also had a pipe cutting incident 😂 - it’s par for the course, hope it was fixed swiftly!)

Hi, me personally I would strip the outside walls back & recover with insulated plaster board. I would keep those curtains also.

With exterior walls, i'd stud it out with wood framing, insulate, then use modern plaster panels.  You won't lose much interior space.   But the insulation benefits, particularly if you use natural material insulation will be immense.

I would remove all of the chimneys if possible.  You will gain safety, space, value, and grandeur.  If you want heating, get modern freestanding wood etc heating fires that you vent through exterior walls with a pipe.  They throw out more heat.

Hi, you can insulate from the outside :) Where the insulation should be (imo)and where it is most useful, you don't lose floor space and don't have to worry about mold and air spaces between the outer wall and the inner wall. 😇
