Hi Claire, I have had these gel sticks for awhile now too. I don't know why, but I always thought they were to be used with water, I love seeing how lovely they are to use dry. Your little electric pencil eraser, is just so adorable lol. Another fabulous tutorial. Thank you so much, Claire.💖

Claire, because of this amazing video I purchased some gel crayons and the brushes and have discovered that I don't need the dish to pick up product, I can apply the color directly to the brush and eliminate the middleman. This has opened a whole new world for my coloring. Thanks so much!

Thank you so much Claire!!!! I have a large collection of Faber-Castell Gelatos that I have been meaning to try for backgrounds…. This was the exact push I needed ❤😊

Thank you for demonstrating the gel sticks!  I wish more colorists would give us this kind of help. This helped me decide if I want to buy a set of these. Thanks again Claire.

these look like pure magic ☺

Thanks for sharing this technique. I will watch Maria's video too. I've had gel crayons and I've never used them. Used pastels before but this looks a little easier.

This is my absolute favourite way to make backgrounds. Theyre so quick and easy and dreamy because of the softness. I hate soft pastels so these are perfect. Works with FC gelatos, gel sticks, silky crayons etc. great with stencils as well 😍 it’s addictive how quick it is haha. I prefer a rougher texture for my palette as it’s less for the crumbs to get stuck in the brushes.  Sometimes the crumbs can make lines if they’re not as softer formula and that changes between colours too. An electric eraser does a good job of removing areas and you can do this to make a bokeh effect too. Love to see this 🙌

Lovely thank you. You won’t get mud if you matter to stay away from opposites inthe colour wheel. We mix opposites to get greys. Or neutral colours. Depending on the colours you mix will determine the the greys or whether they are cool or warm greys. Or “mud” lol. So if you were to mix your yellow with your purple/mauve you would have ended up with grey or mud because they are on opposite sides of the colour wheel or close. Analogous colours are the most fun to blend or colours that are close to each other on the wheel. After writing all this it occurred to me you already know all this. But maybe not. We can’t know everything. Thanks for the video. It’s lovely. The plate is an awesome ideas. Never thought of it.

Mireya is another of my favorites, she is extremely talented. Thanks for sharing, your background turned out beautifully 💕

Eeeee! It was so fun seeing you try this technique🤩, and your background came out SO beautifully blended and buttery WOW! 😍 Am in love with how soft, dreamy, and smooth it makes the pages look. I’ve seen quite a few people using Gel Crayons this way for a while now and have been inspired by many😍, and eventually I wanted to give it a try myself too!😍 I honestly have no idea where the technique originated since so many people have been using it for some time, but it’s been so fun seeing everyone’s colored pages and versions of trying this technique using a variety of blending tools they may already have at home😃. It’s such an inexpensive and easy way to create beautiful backgrounds!😍 And Omgosh thank you so much for the shout-out😭!

I‘ve been waiting for something like this for years! A quick, easy way to colour backgrounds. Also so many tips about other things! Really helpful, thanks a lot!

Thank you for showing this.
Definitely will try. 🖍️
When you pulled out your gold electric eraser and brush…..
I was like WOW 🤩. Fantastic

I've had a small set of these gel pens and they've been sat looking at me for awhile. Thank you so much for this, such a helpful video 😊

These gel crayons are a form of gelatos. You can also use tempera paint sticks as they are just as creamy and versatile.

Oh wow! I had no idea how to use these effectively! I’m now tempted.

🙏🙏🙏 I’ve had my Kingart sticks sitting there waiting for me to do something with them for too long. You’ve made my day Claire.  Thank you so much.🌟🥰🌹

You can use these as watercolors too! They are amazing for so many different projects!

Thank you for this very helpful video!

Good stuff, Claire!
