SEATTLE 1967 Cold Case Solved After 52 Years β€” Justice for Susan Galvin

In July 1967, Seattle was changing. Five years after the World's Fair, the city still retained the innocent atmosphere of a young metropolis coming into its own. Susan Galvin, 20 years old, was part of that atmosphere. The girl from Spokane moved to Seattle when she was just 19, took a job as a records clerk at the Seattle Police Department, serial number 2657, working the night shift from midnight to 8 a.m. She lived in the Queen Anne neighborhood, right next to the Seattle Center complex. Every night on her way to work, she walked from her apartment across the skybridge of the parking garage at 300 Mercer Street, crossed Mercer Street, then caught a bus to the police station. A route so familiar she could walk it with her eyes closed. On the night of July 9, 1967, Susan left home for her night shift as usual. She stepped into the parking garage that had been closed for several days. She never made it to work. Four days later, a parking attendant opened the elevator in the garage and found her body. Susan had been sexually assaulted and strangled to death. She was only 20 years old. Police collected fingerprints from the elevator, stored her clothing in the evidence locker, interviewed dozens of people, including a professional clown who had been seen with her a few hours earlier.
