We all cried when Andy gave his toys away in Toy Story 3, but the beautiful ending you remember is actually a brilliant lie. In this deep-dive script analysis, we expose the dark truth behind the "Donate to Bonnie" sticky note, revealing how Woody manipulated Andy's final decision and engineered a manufactured epiphany to save his friends from the incinerator. The toys didn't passively accept their fate in the attic; Woody rewrote it, and the evidence has been hiding in plain sight for over a decade.

🍓 Yep, the Lotso plush actually smells like strawberries, exactly like in the movie. Hug the villain here:

In Toy Story 4, when walking with Forky, Woody also slips up by saying he's Andy's toy instead of Bonnie's toy, further proving that he never wanted to let go, but had to.

I also happened to notice Andy’s phrasing when handing over his toys implies that he isn’t giving them to her, but entrusting her to look after them while he’s away. His actual words imply this, in spite of the narrative that he’s passing them on to a new home.

If you think of it this way, then Toy Story 4 & 5 could be interpreted as the direct consequences of that manipulated outcome, since in theory, had Andy & the family just kept the Toys as planned, they may not have been at risk of being replaced by Tech by Bonnie, a kid who doesn't have as much an emotional connection or loyalty to the toys, & is therefore susceptible to losing interest in them.

I’m at the age of 16, I’m almost on my way to college, and I’m downsizing my old toys.
But my specific set of toys will remain with me, for the rest of my life.

3:34 you said that Andy thought that his toys were in the attic the entire time? That's not true, Mrs Potato saw him discussing with his mother about the trash bag that was in his room with the toys, looking for it, his mother's tells him that she dumped it and he got anxious/angry about that, then he got surprised when the toys reappeared in a box in his room at the end

Then 4 throws Woody's character in the trash by having him leave his family and betrays Andy by having Bonnie "lose" Woody.

No.. I raged because Andy was being guilt tripped and forced to give up something that made him happy. A toy that maybe he wanted to pass down to his children but no.... It had to go to that little girl that didn't actually care about it.

I was enraged when, in Toy Story 4, Woody realizes that Bonnie doesn't want him, he didn't make his way back home. I feel like Andy would have kept him. I know I kept a lot of my childhood toys to share with my kids when they got old enough, and that's exactly what I did. I was furious that Woody never went back.

Honestly i wish that they could explore the idea andy never wanted to get rid of his troys in a movie like maybe he checks up on bonnie on day and sees she doesnt play with the toys anymore

Am i the only one who constantly sees woody and the toys as a symbol of what real parents are? The constant focus and love for their kids, and acceptance for when the kid is ready to be on their own?

I've never seen Ts3 but I've never understood why someone thought Andy giving away his toys was a good idea. I mean, in the second movie they made it clear that at least the Woody doll was a family heirloom so the mom even suggesting he should get rid of it just never made sense to me.

Andy: "... he'll never give up on you, he'll be there for you no matter what."

Woody then ditched Bonnie for Bo peep after a bit of not being played with.

@muskdeer 6 months ago

And then Toy Story 4 and 5 showed us that Bonnie doesn't care about this toys

The note is a betrayal. "You're right, Prospecter. I can't stop Andy from growing up. But I wouldn't miss it for the world!"

@jerelminter 6 months ago

Exactly, Andy didn't know that his mother didn't write the yellow sticky note with Bonnie’s address on it. He also didn't choose to give the toys away to Bonnie, he originally wanted to put them in the attic and take Woody with him to college. That was gonna happen, if Woody didn't write the note and put it on the box. It was him who decided to send Andy to Bonnie’s house, which is what a lot of fans are forgetting.

As someone who (as of this comment) is 20 years old, and doesn’t want to let go of his toys (I STILL have my stuffed sheep—named Lamby—and she’s my most prized possession), I can 100% believe that Andy never wanted to let go of his toys!

EDIT (Mother’s Day 2026): Speaking of Lamby, I’ve actually decided to initiate a little side project of mine, called “Project: Beyond”. Sorta-Spoiler Alert, it’s a reference to the DCAU show Batman Beyond🙂‍↕️🙂‍↕️🙂‍↕️In order to ensure that there will always be a Lamby in my family’s lineage, I’m going to buy as many Lambies as I can possibly find, and preserve them (maybe I’ll put them in a gun safe like my dad did with Lamby for 5 years—long story, don’t ask—and pass it down through the generations, I dunno🤷) so that, each time a new generation is born in my family, the child can have their very own stuffed companion, as I do😋

I always felt that Andy wanted to keep the toys 1 out of nostalgia and 2 to pass down to his own kids

@Warrior-Of-Virtue 6 months ago

A perfect ending to a perfect trilogy. And the fourth movie murdered it.

@Jerrell7321 6 months ago

Andy’s growth may have been forced, but that’s also symbolic of most people’s transition into adulthood and especially ones having trouble with it; forced due to circumstance.
