To each his own. I have a Sportsman 120 pdl. I fish inshore around Tampa Bay. I keep it simple. 2 rods, cooler, minimal tackle. Throw it in my truck and hit the water.  I don’t make a big deal

My first and current kayak is an 10ft Old Town Lake walker. It's a very comfortable kayak and I have not been skunked fishing yet!

Anyone new to fishing might want to wait a year.
I would find the best spots to fish from land first. Knowing which places to fish would help a lot   I would consider one if I was going with with a buddy.  Both of us owning our own kiyak.  Finally I would research and buy the most capable one.

Im running a Moken 12.5 pdl and it's perfect. Managable size, great tracking, stable, faster than my Moken 10, and got it used in new shape for $750. No complaints!

I've been kayak fishing for about 16 years - however, inshore saltwater fishing, IMO, requires more than fishing a 10 acre lake.  I started paddling used kayaks, owned various pedal drives purchased used, but I'm older now and want to cover some ground.  I've been motorized for the last 2 years (happily)!  I agree that limited range forces you to learn the area and become a better fisherman.  I will say that a simple fish finder is an incredible aid for finding drop offs, deep holes, etc.  I've improved my fishing results tremendously using only 4 and 5" fish finders.

I have a load of kayaks but my shoalie is my favorite. NK180pro, usually take 3 rods and a small crate. I cut out the front hatch so I can camp out of it.

I feel the same about my shoalie. To me it is "basic" allowing me to concentrate on the fishing not rigging.  I have the NK180pro but have paddled it upstream for miles with no motor.  Only take 3 rods as the 4th is always in the way getting tangled.  Keeping it simple...

Keep a large sponge in your kayak.  Hardware stores sell them for drywall work.  I think mine is 6" by 8".  When water pools anywhere you soak it up with the sponge and squeeze it out.

I've never over rigged my yaks. Just what I need no more only less. Too much shit gets in the way and also causes too much stuff taken along. My yaks have been over rigged for safety though, I fished mainly open  saltwater.

I run a nucanoe pursuit  with one rod. No net, no radar, and i love it so much. I find a lot of lures and catch a lot of fish.  Clean deck, i even removed the seat so its a kayak, canoe, sup hybrid

For small waters in good weather I agree but any current or wind it kills me having to constantly reposition with a paddle

Nice setup ! We have a similar setup OldTown Laker/Sportsman  120, light weight kayak and  I use a Haswing 3.0 motor modified variable throttle controller box -and with Newport Vessel mount . I highly recommend 1/2 inch PE board not necessarily but helps when transporting with trailer to support heavier motor  such as Newport Nk300 motor

I have the same old town and a nucanoe unlimited max. My umax is fully rigged and it’s great for lakes. But the simplicity of my 120 makes me lean towards using that more and just running to river instead.

Great video and very eye opening. Was wondering if you would be able to do a break down of the foot steering cable set up? Have the exact same kayak, but I’ve been meaning to upgrade it to a motorized version with foot steering. Thank you in advance!
