Two weeks' notice used to be the professional standard. That's changing. I got laid off after 8 years in a job considered critical. I worked thru storms, viruses, freezes and power outages. I got a phone call on my day off while on the lake notifying me my job had been done away with due to restructuring. Companies dont care about you no matter how much you contribute. Sad fact is you just work day to day until you can't anymore.

My coworker gave their two weeks notice. He was never late, always on time, never missed a day, he was crossed trained and always cover for other people who were out for the day. That same day that he gave his two weeks notice he was laid off and was told they didn't have to wait two weeks for him to leave. Companies today are not loyal and HR is never on your side. They're there to protect the company from lawsuits.

Companies don't give notice before they fire you, so why would you give them notice before you fire them? You don't owe any company anything.

Ive been a professional for 20 years and have never ever given more than a weeks notice. Usually its like on Tuesday I say Friday is my last day.

People told me oh Im burning bridges. Im not gonna be able to be employed there again. Blah blah blah.

I had the same companies calling me 2 years later offering me a job. Guess what. They fired the old managers. Or they move on. Nobody cares.

Look 2-week notices depend on how the company treated me during the time I was there. Now if you treated me bad and undermined me you won't get a 2-week notice.

This man is absolutely right. You can spend 30 years at a company and it takes them less than five minutes to hand you off to a security guard and march you out. And don’t believe for a second just because they pay you for maybe a short time after your marched out, that is somehow a courtesy.
