In Death valley I found an old Los Angeles Times front page in an adit.  The headline was 'Berlin ready for Peace'.  And some misc stories about DUIs and gang activity.  I thought it was from 1945.  Cool.  The corner with the date was missing so I guessed.  It wasnt until I opened the page and saw the date near the fold.  September 1917.  1917!!  Super cool!  DUIs and gang activity in LA back in 1917.  No improvement. I framed the newspaper for the office.

Note to self. Fill backpack with extra toilet paper when exploring old cabins in future.

I grew up on my grandparents cotton farm in Texas, we had a house that we called the hand house, where we stored hay.  The house was where the cotton pickers would stay during picking season, before cotton picking machines were invented.  It also had the news paper pasted on the inside, my dad said it was to block the wind from coming thru the cracks.  He had lots of stories about different migrant workers that came thru every season. The papers were from the 1910s thru the 1950s. It had an old wood stove in it.  It was full of history.

Never go exploring remote regions on your own, unaccompanied. Always have a friend or relative with you. I learned that the hard way near Scossa some years ago (2002) even when society was not so wacky crazy as it is today.

Good laugh!!  Only that part of getting scared.  But glad you were alright.  The danger side is a reality.

Two of those articles pin this down to the 1920s or 30s. Magner White and Dixie Willson were both prominent authors for various American magazines at that time. Both of those names are visible in those articles. Combine that with the aircraft in those articles I’d put this sometime in the middle of the 1920s that paper went up. Gemini AI pins it down to them both having an article in the same issue of American magazine February 1931.
