My brother in Islam obligation is higher and different from Sunnah which means obligations are the words and command in the Quran which are the final words from almighty God and must be followed and obey. The Sunnah are the sayings and the behaviours of the holy prophet during his life time, it's a guide that if followed you will be rightly guided but not compulsory. Any human cultures that are not in conflict with Islamic ways like prostrating to once parents is not against Islam because Quran said we should respect our parents.
