The Popular Front won the elections of February 16, 1936. Azaña became Prime Minister. The Socialists, without participating in the government, supported him. This was the second lecture on the Second Spanish Republic, given by José Luis Climent, founder of the Historical Society of the Mercantile Athenaeum of Valencia.

In December 1935, after another ministerial crisis, the President of the Republic decided to dissolve the Cortes (Parliament). New elections were scheduled for February 16, 1936. The Popular Front won these elections with a platform signed by two bourgeois parties, Azaña's Republican Left and Martínez Barrio's Republican Union, as well as the PCE (Communist Party of Spain), PSOE (Spanish Socialist Workers' Party), JS (Socialist Youth), UGT (General Union of Workers), and POUM (Workers' Party of Marxist Unification).

The lecture detailed all the events that took place from the Popular Front's victory until Victory Day. On April 1, 1939, Francisco Franco signed the final communiqué of the Spanish Civil War with the famous words: "Today, with the Red Army captured and disarmed, the National troops have achieved their final military objectives. The war is over."
