Welcome to Wrong Man Stories. Today, we’re recapping Payback (1999).
Porter is a professional thief who helps steal $140,000 from a Chinese crime syndicate. But after the job, his partner Val Resnick convinces Porter’s wife to shoot him, steals the money, and uses it to buy his way into a powerful criminal organization known as the Outfit.
Months later, Porter returns for the only thing he wants: his $70,000 share. He has no interest in taking over the city or destroying the mob, but every criminal, corrupt cop, and powerful boss who stands in his way makes the same mistake. They assume one wounded thief will eventually give up.
Instead, Porter works his way through the Outfit one man at a time, proving that the most dangerous enemy is not always the one asking for the most.
