Alien Tech: (mutates humanity into hideous monstrous feral creatures)
Idiots: "Is this the logical next evolution of humanity??"

Fun fact, the deep lore of the origin of the church suggests that Altman (or however you spell his name) found out how bad the marker was when he discovered the black marker on earth at the bottom of the ocean, and he died to make sure the government couldn’t use it for their own nefarious purposes. Of course, a coverup came and the church sprung up around it all

Altman, a man that tried stopping the marker only to become a symbol for it.

Guy 1: "Hey, maybe we were the real monsters all along."
Guy 2: "That thing literally ate a man's face off and turned him into the undead equivalent of an orgy with legs."
Guy 1: "Yes, but... humanity bad, though."

Techincally, the church isn't wrong, if their belief is that all humanity has to die to form a single consciousness, that's kind of what happens.
Even if the single consciousness isn't human. But there are always parts of the sacred scriptures that are lost in translation.

Oops.

"If only I could've denied Mercer the pleasure of becoming a Necromorph."
Fun fact you can, if you're fast enough you can immediately run over to him while the hologram is goin and kill him and the Infector before it even has a chance to finish jabbing his head and turn him. It was hysterical seeing him just be another pathetic Unitologist corpse that didn't even turn. XD

I love how both the natives of Tau volantis and the sovereign colonies sacrificed themselves for the entire universe on that planet
Bunch of chads

I always liked how the Unitologist named Irons from Dead Space Downfall, despite being a true believer in Unitology, still did what he could to help other Ishimura survivors against the Necromorphs.

I would have been too scared to mention "Scientology", truly you are indeed a Zealot! Thanks for the bravery, man.

Honestly, "The glowy red rock made me do it" sounds like a good excuse for anything

Said it before and will say it again but LOVE the not-so-subtle references to Scientology with Dead Space's moronic religious zealots.

The Unitologists did way worse that cause the extinction of humanity - they cause the extinction of life as a whole. Like, the title of the series hints at the fact that any life that might have existed is already dead; destroyed by the Brethren Moons already but if any species had managed to survive until now or was outside of the reach of the network the Unitologists deactivating the machine and reconnecting the network would've doomed them all as well.

The capabilities of the moons are unknown to us, it's entirely possible they're capable of spreading out beyond just our galaxy, perhaps even beyond our local network.

In defense of Unitology, the marker is successful in sabotaging humanity through it to an extent. Making you into suicidal food is specifically the intent of the Marker. (I haven't watched the vid, I just feel like the church's actions in Deadspace 3 are consistent with the premis of the Markers purpose and that the hero's plot armor doesn't devalue said purpose.)

Honestly the only smart faction in Dead Space was SCAF they made sure anything marker related was so far removed from civilized space that when what would become Earth Gov won the Succession war they tried to destroy all assets so they had little to no information on markers, their test locations, and other top secret stuff with Dead Space 3 showing how far they went to cover this up as well as the book Catalyst.

Man, there's being a Zealot and then there's Unitoligy. You can only delude yourself so much when aliens are ripping your face off.

Dead Space in a nutshell:

"We can make a religion out of this"

"No don't."

"How bout I do, anyway?"

Funny that Unitology began because their founder tried to stop it. Also the true villain of Dead Space isnt the church of unitology, it's the brethren moons

"Unitology is full of sh*t." -Issac Clarke.

The Reboot not only doesn't turn Mercer into a Necromorph but the actual Marker itself decides to screw him over! In the Remake, when Isaac kills the Hunter, a tentacle sprouts out and restrain Isaac while Mercer begs the Marker to turn him but since the Marker wants to be returned to the Hive Mind, it summons a tentacle to be dragged to the cargo bay, wrapping around the Marker and Mercer, crushing the insane Unitoligist and pretty much killing him with what he believed in.

Fucking cults.

I love how he incorporates Star Trek quotes to counter or emphasize his points.
