Pinned post for Q&A :)

In these days of out of control AI, let us give thanks to Drach for sharing with us these amazing original drawings and photographs!  Bringing over 100 years ago to life today.

Nice to hear info on WW1 boats, not a lot out there on them!!!

First coffee...now this! Promises to be a good day!

I have read extensively on boat types. I have never even seen references to this type. Thanks again for a great video.

One notable commander of the UB and UCboats was captain Karl doenitz.

There's absolutely nothing cooler in my mind than the great leap forward in technology during WW1. The U-boats and Zeppelin

The loss rates of German submarines is staggering. Being assigned as a crewman was almost a certain death sentence.

0:35 The irony is that the British Empire had created the Kingdom of Belgium basically to prevent enemies of Britain using that coastline to threaten the English Channel and related waters, only to not actually defend Belgium's coastline when Belgian neutrality was violated!

For generations, the British plan was, if Belgium was attacked, for the British Army to rush by sea to the Belgian ports and hold them. The moral authority for the war would be defending Belgian liberty against an aggressor, the coast would remain out of hostile hands, and the Royal Navy could support the garrisons indefinitely by sea. A very British strategy that made good use of its small army and big navy.

But in the decade before 1914, for reasons not quite understood to this day, the British Army agitated to fight as a field army in the interior, rather than garrisoning coastal regions. For reasons we need not dwell on here, the Army "won" the argument in 1914.  When the British Empire declared war on Germany over the violation of Belgian Neutrality, the British Army would go to France to fight alongside the French Army, not to Belgian ports to keep them out of German hands. The ports fell, Germany would indeed weaponize coastal control against the British Isles, and the rest is the History of the Western Front.

For more information, I suggest the works of prominent historians like Graham Kemp, Andrew Lambert, Nicholas Lambert, and Gordan Corrigan. If you aren't interested in reading their many fine books and articles, they have some great lectures online via the Western Front Association and other organizations.

As usual, wonderfully succinct. A great encapsulation of the UC type. Drachinfal shall long live in the annals of naval history.

Just imagine spending more than 10 minutes in such a boat submerged!

1:37 Talk about inducing electric range anxiety!

Thanks, Drach! Awesome video, and one I’d asked for a time or two. Thank you again.

Thanks, Drach, for another report on the bewildering variety of German subs.

Finally! I waited nearly 10 years for this!

Those Uber-Cool type U-Boats are really neat!

... I'll see myself out. 😅

Great video Drach, I need to read up more on WW1 history.

UB40 also deserves to be remembered.

My sacrifice to the algorithm gods

Cheers Drach, I don’t really know much about WW1 U-boats despite my interest in the High Seas Fleet, and it’s really nice to learn about them!
