The chase ended with a gunshot. Waiter Gabriel Sena claimed Joshua Makio hit him, ripped an expensive silver chain from his neck, and tried to escape. Gabriel chased after the man, and when he caught up with him, he thought he might pull out a gun and shot him in the leg. He didn't see the gun.

The investigation revealed that witnesses only saw parts of the incident, so police reconstructed the events based on testimony, surveillance footage, and recovered evidence. Ultimately, Gabriel was charged with grievous bodily harm with a deadly weapon, and Joshua, after his recovery, was charged with robbery and theft.
