It's great to be back on YouTube! Black Bear Pass has been on the bucket list for years and it did not disappoint!

This was filmed in the summer of 2022 and it was closed all or most of 2023. From what I’m hearing crews are working on clearing it now and it will hopefully open soon. I’m not local though and others in the comments are and can offer better info. Hoping it opens so others get the chance to run it.

To quote the late great CW McCall. "You don't have to be crazy to drive Black Bear Road but it helps."

Done this a few times myself . Always take the high line and cut down onto the step there. Definite pucker factor.

Holy crap, just watched this and can't believe you people do this. Me, i don't think i could do all three (pray, curse, & drive) ... And make it out the other end in one piece. Bravo and thanks for sharing.

Very good vid. I have done other Alpine trails in that region, a few times. Live in Colorado Springs, CO. I was in a 4x4 club here years ago. Learned a lot. I may try to coordinate with them to do this trail. I copied the formula I saw in the vehicles in the club. Take a Jeep Rubicon, lift it, larger tires, aftermarket steel bumpers, winch and good to go for trails in CO and UT. Been to Moab with them a couple times. Learn so much from older experienced 4x4 people.

1st time for Black Bear was September 1985 in a 1978 FJ40 Landcruiser, next time was 2001 on a DR 350 Suzuki with my 3 yr old daughter on the gas tank and 7 yr old son behind me, then in 2011 on a KLR 650 Kawasaki, my son was on one of his own as well.
Love those San Juans!

I'm planning my first trip to Colorado this July. Started reading about BBP being permanently closed and my heart sank. Glad to hear that it should be reopened.

Watching this video my heart was racing , bringing the memories from the last time I drove this pass with my FJ Crusier. Beautiful scenery, fun and cool trail, but definitely is not for the faint of heart. Great video, it seems that you guys had fun!!

Great video, having beautiful weather makes this a much easier trail, when it's rainy or there's some snow/ice it can be treacherous. Although please let the Jeep owner with the pulsing headlight kit know this would drive anyone in front of them crazy 😀

One of the best vids I’ve seen of the pass as someone hoping to do it some time and watching the lines. Thanks. Hope it doesn’t close permanently before I get to do it.
