Comparing Viking vs Oceania Cruises to help you decide on your next luxury voyage. See which line offers better value for your budget.

Choosing between Viking vs Oceania can be difficult given their reputations. This comparison breaks down the core differences in excursion pricing, onboard entertainment, dining options, and cabin accommodation. Whether you are a first-time cruiser or a seasoned traveller, understanding these distinctions ensures you pick the right ship for your vacation style.

We provide a detailed cruise price comparison for a Mediterranean cruise itinerary, highlighting why Oceania may be the more cost-effective option for your specific needs. The video also covers important policy updates, such as the upcoming changes to Oceania’s children policy in 2026. This analysis is designed to save you time and money before you book your next Mediterranean cruise.

⚠️ CORRECTION – OCEANIA SHORE EXCURSION CREDIT
At approximately 8:00 in the video, we state that the shore excursion credit for the 10-night Oceania cruise used in our comparison is US$300 per stateroom. This is incorrect.

For this booking, the credit is US$300 per guest for Guests 1 and 2 — US$600 total for two guests sharing the stateroom.

Oceania’s booking screen displayed “US$300 Your World Included Shore Excursion Credit,” which we interpreted as the total credit for the booking. Oceania’s Your World Included information confirms that the benefit is per guest.

This also affects our example at approximately 9:11. Eight basic excursions for two people at US$80 each would total approximately US$1,280. After applying the correct US$600 excursion credit, the estimated additional excursion cost would be US$680 rather than US$980.

This correction further strengthens Oceania’s value in the comparison. We apologise for the error and sincerely thank the viewer who brought it to our attention.

40+ years in teaching, so I've seen a great deal of PPT presentations, and let me say that your video without a doubt was WONDERFUL. Your content is great, your visuals are spot on, your explanations are detailed yet simply presented, and all the material is very well organized. As others have commented, you've obviously put a great deal of time, thought, and work into making this video. THANK YOU SO MUCH! (We are pretty new to cruises. We've only done 7 with 2 more booked.)

Thank you for your comparison. My wife and I took a Viking Ocean Cruise ending in June of 2026. We do not drink alcoholic beverages and only took advantage of one of the complementary shore excursions. The lectures were interesting and it would have been helpful to be able to watch the lectures in the stateroom. We have been on several Oceania cruises. One of the big differences we noticed was the quality of the bed linens and towels. The Viking linens and towels were much rougher than the Oceania linens and towels. My wife has some food allergies and on Viking, except for one dining manager, we had to remind the staff at every meal. On Oceania when our cabin number was taken to get a table for dining a ticket was printed for the server detailing the food allergies, plus after a few days all of the dining managers knew my wife and her issues. One big difference we noticed was the time in port. On several port stops on Oceania the ship would leave later in the evening to permit passengers to dine ashore if they desired. Viking minimized the time in port which was interesting since the distance between to ports was not very far. You had time for either one excursion or a very well planned private excursion and then you had to return to the ship.

If these comparisons are true, we lean a bit more towards Team Oceania😂. Thanks for this!

⚠ CORRECTION – OCEANIA SHORE EXCURSION CREDIT

At approximately 8:00 in the video, we state that the shore excursion credit for the 10-night Oceania cruise used in our comparison is US$300 per stateroom. This is incorrect. The credit is US$300 per guest for Guests 1 and 2 — US$600 total for two guests sharing the stateroom.

This also changes our example at approximately 9:11. Eight basic excursions for two people at US$80 each would total US$1,280. After applying the correct US$600 credit, the estimated additional excursion cost would be US$680 rather than US$980.

Oceania’s booking screen displayed “US$300 Your World Included Shore Excursion Credit,” which we interpreted as the total booking credit. We have since confirmed that the benefit is per guest.

We have cruised with Viking 8 times over the last 8 years (river and ocean). This isn't once a year as we sometimes link 2 cruises together as we prefer longer cruises now that we are retired. We don't get drinks packages but we do appreciate the wine and beer with meals. We much prefer lectures and smaller productions to glitzy shows. We use the included tours in about half of the ports and pay for upgraded tours or explore on our own in the others. Now that Oceania is adults only we may give them another look, but we have been very happy with Viking. Price isn't everything, just because the industry places them both in the same category doesn't make them equivalent experiences. A consistent experience is also very important you might have a wonderful cruise on one Oceania ship and then not like another at all, whereas on Viking if you enjoyed one the only difference with another will be the destination.

Thank you so much for such an in depth video. I have been curious about Viking for some time now as we consider a cruise to Alaska. But know I’m going to dig much more deeply into Viking, Holland and Oceania. Thank you again!
