My grandfather served two tours in Korea. When he passed he was cremated and laid to rest in a military cemetery with one specific request. His tomb is always facing the sunlight, he never wanted to be as cold as he was in Korea. Rest in peace.

When US Army troops begin singing the Marine Hymn, you know you've reached a whole new level of being a badass. As a retired USAF maintainer, I will never get tired of teasing my family members and friends who are Marines but when it comes down to it in the end I thank god for the Marines. Semper Fi Marines.

The Chosin Few is the title those men earned. We learned all of this during USMC boot camp. Brings tears of pride to every Marine in the USA.

General McArthur was a douchebag. He ordered soldiers to open fire on WW1 VETERANS that just wanted a couple extra $ in their military pension.

I met a veteran of Chosin once.  He was both happy and surprised I knew of it.  I told him that all Marines are taught about that battle, and they are heroes in the minds of all Marines that came after.

The United Kingdom was involved in the Korean War between 25 June 1950 and 27 July 1953. 56,000 British troops participated on the side of the United Nations force.

For the war the United Kingdom provided the second largest force behind the United States. For deployment, the Royal Navy arrived on 1 July 1950 whilst the British Army arrived on 28 August. During the war 1,078 soldiers were killed.

After the war some British troops remained as military observers until 1957.

I spoke to one of the Frozen Chosin in boot camp. He told us those tootsie rolls saved a lot of fuckin lives. Their rations were frozen so solid they took so long to eat that during the fight and the long retreat dudes couldnt get the calories to keep their strength, but those tootsie rolles were easy enough to eat and had the calories needed to keep em going.

He also told me  he woke up in the hospital among rows and rows of soldiers who lost their feet or legs to frostbite because the cold weather boots made their feet sweat so they froze into basically blocks of ice when they cooled down. But he kept his feet because as miserable as it was he never got cold weather boots, so his feet froze but they didnt freeze solid. He told me he was literally watching them prep anesthesia and saws for his feet when the doctor ran over yelling and hollering wait we can save his stop stop.

Thought about that for a long

To put the temperature into perspective, the temperature at the time of the battle of the bulge was somewhere between 20°F(-7C) to 0°F(-18C). The Chosen Reservoir was -36F(-38C) with some veterans reporting that it felt closer to -54F(-48C). This is certified artic warfare.

Task Force Drysdale is one you should know mate. It was commanded by a Royal Marine Commando. "Task Force Drysdale was a combined military unit formed during the Battle of Chosin Reservoir in the Korean War, specifically on November 29, 1950, to relieve the besieged United Nations forces at Hagaru-ri.
It was commanded by Lieutenant Colonel Douglas B. Drysdale of the British Royal Marines' 41 (Independent) Commandos"

Years ago I worked with a Korean War Veteran.  He had served in the US Army as a photographer and been discharged just before Korea happened. Most of our military had been disbanded after WWII and we were NOT prepared for war. My coworker got reactivated and told he had 3 days to report to the West Coast.  They were put on ships and sent toward Korea and on the way he and the others were taught how to fire different weapons. My friend said he was given an M1 Garand and fired a few rounds into the ocean and that was all the training they got and most of the men on his ship had not trained for or been in combat.
When the ship got to Korea our forces were being forced out by the Chinese forces and the sea port facilities were being blown up to keep the enemy from getting them. Just off the ship his "Unit" was told the enemy would be there in ONE HOUR and to get ready to fight.  He said for the next year or more they would "shoot everything we had and then run like hell, regroup, replenish and go back into  the fight".  He said there were lots of hand to hand fights after Chinese troops over ran our lines and he described it like this.  He was a physically large man and he said they would fix bayonets as they were over run. He said "we would thrust the bayonet into the Chinese and throw them over our shoulders like farm workers pitch hay".  and go on to the next one". He confirmed that 1 out of every  3 Chinese had a rifle and they only were given a few rounds of ammo. Some had pointed sticks or clubs but would pick up weapons off the battlefield during the fight.
Since i was a Veteran too, Fred felt comfortable talking to me about that bit of his war experience. He was a really good man !

Happy 250th, Marines.

4:35 "if i ever die" if???? its confirmed original human is immortal

There were Royal Marines who fought with the USMC and were part of TF Drysdale

My grandfather fought in the Korean War. I got him to talked about his experiences and he'd tell stories where his face would go completely white and he'd look vacant. Then he'd finish, smile and say "that's what I heard anyway". My grandmother said she'd never heard him talk about the war in almost 50 years.

Also, ya this was US vs China hard.  China lost between 600k and 900k

RIP to MSG Rudy Siekman. He was my Bn S-2 INTEL NCOIC at the 327th MP Bn (USAR) back in the late 1980's, and was a survivor of the Frozen Chosin. He and 4 other soldiers spent a week trapped behind enemy lines trying to get back to their unit. He lost 2 finger tips and his some of toes to frost bite but they made it back.

not a lot of people know this but there was actually about 50 Royal marine commandos at this battle too!! their performance in the battle was praised by General Oliver Smith stating that their contribution was vital in holding Hagaru

48:36 if you’re curious where his footage comes from, any footage filmed by a military photographer was funded with tax money so it is all free use and is stored in the national archives.

18:44 the one thing Nic didn't touch on that im surprised about is that General MacArthur wanted to drop like 100 nukes along the Yalu river to create an irradiated belt of land that wouldn't let the Chinese on the peninsula.

14:38 .. .. .. I'm not going to say "We've never heard Nick rant" ... ... but his "Douglas MacArthur Rant" is F'cking BRUTAL ... ... 😂

My grandfather was a Marine and served in this battle, and though wounded multiple times, he survived. He carried his injuries the rest of his life, but he was proud to be among the "Frozen Chosin" or "Chosin Few"
