Escalators in Hong Kong make the same noise. It's constant and the sound is sharper and faster than in Japan. I've heard it on the escalators at the MTR and HKIA.

This must be in Japan.  The correct escalator must be the left.  The buzzer is a safety feature so someone does not fall down the wrong escalator.
