"The Lurker on the Stairway" Finally they're reading the story about Nik

Heavy is the hand that creeps his cast.

@datamale 5 hours ago

Describing words like "please" and "hello" as "social lubricant" is such an interesting and revealing way to show the main character's mechanical view of human interaction

@mitchmitch892 6 hours ago

The only creature lurking right now is Turnk Brownie, who will not be forgotten again.

Another way to read the story is that the narrator complained about the city's filth, and, as if in response, the monster cleaned it up. As if he summoned the monster to fix society's ills like strays, the homeless, and the antisocial. However, he is also a part of this society's ill and he was also supposed to be swept up like the other undesirables. I see parallels between the narrator and the monster: both are pale, nocturnal invaders of this land, uncaring about how it functions. Neither sees the locals as people worth interacting with or knowing, but as something they can take advantage of. Both do their work at night and only come out for food.

Every time I went up my stairs at night, I tripped and fell, with no clear reason why. That was until I saw The Creature pouring olive oil on the stairs.

in penpal isiah said he’d steal the word “stygian” as his own and in the first ten minutes he finally fulfilled his promise

Stygian Sagas is one of the best horror creators on YT. All of his content is original and he reads it himself, and his style involves a lot more setup than the usual 'the creature is immortal and will get you' that plagues most 'creepypasta'.

Well, they actually put the name of the story as the title of the episode so that's at least a somewhat encouraging sign.

I'm going to start pronouncing Isaiah's name the way hurricane Isaias is pronounced.

I herd the notification for the new episode of CreepCast while driving through a school zone, I looked down to pull it up and while doing so hit a bump, when I looked behind me the creature laid dead in the middle of the road, the strangest part was the creature had disguised itself as a child. How creepy.

I walked up from the basement after tasting some amontillado with a friend. Unbeknownst to me, The Creature lurked on my stairwell.

You guys should definetly read more from Stygian. Their stories are very unique and I love the way they describe things. Dude knows how to set great atmosphere.

I was NOT expecting that twist that Phnom Penh was where Happy Appy and Forenzik fled to after being responsible for 9/11

I thought this read was really interesting, no big showdown with the creature, no major bear traps or bombs dropped, it felt like it genuinely could've happened as a grimm's fairytale. "Isolation will let the monsters in," with the main character simply realizing that and facing trial and error within trying to survive is exactly the kind of thing I love seeing within these shorter stories.

It's worth mentioning the title of the story, 'The Lurker on the Stairway', is SO directly Lovecraft coded, the homage is clear. I really love the imagery of the city neighbourhood growing quieter around the protag, as time wore on, that is so nightmarishly suggestive, without even seeing anything.
