"They are the most antisocial dicks in the world" is the best description ever of both AI scrapers and AI bros.

The fact that these companies got tax breaks for datacenter construction, have been subsidizing their energy costs and stole all their foundational data and STILL are not profitable shows you just how unprofitable this “business model” is.  It would be like if you broke into a museum to steal all the artwork but couldn’t sell it for more than your burglary equipment cost.  No amount of burglary fixes that sunken cost fallacy.

Destructive scanning of rare books is an organised destruction of culture, history and the entire history of the human race. If you get books first and destroy them then your competitors lose out. If your fraudulent AI company with its model goes bankrupt then all the books are lost along with them forever. This needs highlighting.

It's like the only thing they actually improve at is finding more odious, easily hateful ways to conduct their 'business'.

That's what really blows me away about companies doubling down on Ai. I'm not even talking about the hyper scalers, we know why they are, but the smaller companies... the audience doesn't want it.

There is an episode of star trek voyager where they send the doctor away. In an attempt to recreate him they download the entire medical knowledge into a kopied vessel. All it could do was recite the books. Real Intelligence is more then just data. Over thirty years ago some people all ready understood this.

The ai companies are parasites.  This is all such a sick joke.

They are exploiting everything we humans have done so they can what, replace us? Let's just get rid of them first and throw this crap away!

Wait, but we don’t have general intelligence yet? So you can’t just pump the entire internet into a statistical model and expect it to output a superhuman intelligence?

Everyone delete their book auctions. They are better off protected by you and your family and never sold.

This shows yet again that Ethical and Lawful are two very different concepts.

And today 404 media tracked a book back directly to an amazon training facility, so that loop is closed. We know this practice generally exists, and this purchasing method is supplying it.

We already doubted their lack of morality and values, tearing books apart seems to further prove it.

LLM’s have asymptotically approached their limits of what they can do.   They will always hallucinate, it’s not a matter of data, it’s math and physics.   Those who understand the technology know this.   We are already at the stage where new model releases have minuscule improvements and they will continue to improve minimally without ever achieving AGI.  I’m not saying AGI is not possible, but it’s not possible with LLMs using the current architecture.   Once the geniuses on Wall Street realize this, the crash will be stupendous.
