I'm from the Mississippi Delta region of the US. IMHO, this is the ultimate blues rock song of all time. I dont care where they are from. They hit the mark.

I’ve been listening to that song for 40 years and it still gives me chills

Plant's harmonica never gets enough credit.

I heard this entire album in 75 as a 10 year old, listening on a high watt Pioneer hi-fi system. A friend's older brother forced us to sit and listen. I remember it vividly because It changed me in that moment, and for the first time, I understood the power of music and especially of Zeppelin.

The drums roll like thunder.
The guitar drones on like the endless, flooding rain.
The harmonica screams out the pain of loss.

Unbelieveable song.

John Bonham’s drums on this song are🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥

There will never be another band like Led Zeppelin. Ever.

from Wikipedia: "The track opened with Bonham's heavy unaccompanied drumming, which was recorded in the lobby of Headley Grange using two Beyerdynamic M 160 microphones suspended above a flight of stairs; output from these were passed to a limiter. A Binson Echorec, a delay effects unit, was also used. Page recalled he had tried to record the track at early sessions but it had sounded flat. The unusual locations around the lobby gave the ideal ambience for the drum sound."

You know you're a legend when you hear another acclaimed vocalist go, "holy shit, this guy's awesome."

When Led Zeppelin recorded this song the way they got the sound on the drums is they placed the drum kit at the bottom of the stairwell of the house they were recorded in and placed microphones higher up the stairs to get the drum sound you hear in the song. This is one of My favorite Zeppelin songs.

Nice to see how Elisabeth continues to recognize how special Led Zeppelin was.

Led Zeppelin were so ahead of their time that if they came out today I would STILL say they were ahead of their time!

The drums were set up in the three story brick entry hall/foyer of Hedley Grange. Mics were hung from the second and third floor stairway landings. The massive sound came from the natural acoustic echo of the tall stairwell, combined with aggressive compression through a Helios console/limiter and a Binson Echorec delay unit. The recording engineer was Andy Johns.

I am glad you enjoy Led Zeppelin as much as we do Elizabeth.

I don’t know of any band today that could create anything like this. These are master musicians at the top of their game. Transcendent .

“Crying won’t help you, praying won’t do you no good”. Always breaks me up. Thanks, Elizabeth.

I think Elizebeth had an eargasm when Plant started singing

I knew a bartender at Cooter Brown's in New Orleans a long time ago who would play this song when the frat boys got too rowdy. He said it always worked. The place became as quiet as a church by the end of the song.

I've always said, Zep legitimately treated Robert's voice as its own instrument. He's not just a singer. To me, he's the greatest front man of all time.
