I needed to get my mower raised while it's outside so I could pressure wash the deck underside, change blades, etc.  After years & years of having an old set of tube steel ramps for some long gone 4-wheelers, I finally put them up on my truck tailgate, drive the mower partway up & park it - easy & fast, underside is super accessible.  (Plus, nothing more to purchase!)

I have my own channel and let me tell you. I gave you a like just because I see you a humble human being and a hard worker. I’m also a landscaper and I see the tools you have and you humble about it. God bless you and your business. Keep up the good work!

Sorry for my tardy comment.  I've had a chain hoist like you recommended for almost a year now, and your video is maybe the best tip I've seen on YouTube.  I found a model on Amazon with a 7-foot lift instead of the standard 10, and it works perfectly in my garage with an 8-foot ceiling.  Instead of lag bolts, I found a long eye bolt at Menards that is bolted through a piece of 2 x 6 across two of my ceiling joists.  I feel safer that way, and a 2nd eye bolt is used for a safety strap or chain instead of jack stands.  For storage, I leave the hoist in place and let the chain fall into an old paint can that I lift up and secure to the chain with an S hook. It's ready to use in a handful of seconds and stores just as quickly. Thanks a million!

As a former flatbed heavy haul driver, I would not trust bolts screwed into a roof truss.  Lag screws are not designed to support parallel weight pulling against the threads and trusses are not designed.  Floor joist are stronger but lag screws are still the weakest link.
I am going to do this but will use a weight rated eyebolt through a 2 x 6 on top of at least 3 rafter trusses.  I have attic access above garage.  Yes I will need to cut a hole in the ceiling for the eyebolt to pass through but I will know for sure that the weight will be supported and that I won’t come close to any plumbing or electrical runs.

Good idea, but it’s still too low to work on. It should be minimum waist height when it’s raised.

chock the back wheels also, GENIUS idea

Added two eye bolts to front of my zero turn to create trailer tie down points.  Use them also for a garage lift by using a rachet strap over my garage roof trusses.  Very effective and cheap.

I use a similar system with what I believe you call a come along instead of the chain hoist. A bit more time-consuming, but using things I already had.

Trailer tongue jack with angle plate added. Handle screw lifts it nicely. Lowers well. Portable.

great idea. I would also block the rear wheels for added safety

I’ve used a chain hoist for years to clean deck and change blades.  Dealership told me to set this up.

Thank you for the great idea. I’d suggest making your anchor point a little more beefier.

Thats a nifty idea, but putting a large hole on a joist like that is about the worst you can do structurally.  Probably be fine for years, but I'd have cut the drywall and run a 2 or 3-ply 2x over 2 or 3 joists and anchored to that.
Couple hours extra work with drywall repair, but load spread across 3 joists and solid through bolt with a couple washes on top below nut would never pull through.
Had a car slide off a jack in the garage once.  Took 3-4 seconds as it slid along the frame while on a level surface.  It was winter and just a little moisture/ice on floor and it was like something out of a movie.

After looking up lawn mower lifts and other ideas, I put a hoist in my shop and did maintenance on the mower.  Since they were having a 20% off sale Labor day, I got all my parts and Harbor Freight with the exception of the lag bolts.  Thank you a gazillion times for this wonderful video!!!

if you have cribbing blocks, then you can raise the entire mower off the ground. Do what you need to do without fear of the mower falling, plus it brings the mower up to a height where you're not hurting your back by bending over to work on it. The blocks are stackable, therefore they can be stored out of your way

Buy once.  Cry once.  I bought a Jungle Jim Jack for my Badboy zero turn.  It's about $250.00 and I can take it anywhere.    Works great and is much safer than putting lag bolts into ceiling rafters in the garage.  That looks like a good way to get crushed or at minimum, damage the mower.

Great idea. I would use a bolt and nut to attach it. Im paranoid about screws coming off. Ill give it a try.

Same setup I use. Safe, secure, however, I USE A STURDY TREE in the back yard. Mowers can easily weigh a thousand pounds or more.

A guy here in my hometown died from his mower coming off his jack & fell on his head while he was under it. I will not get under one. Yes i jack it up  & use a jack  stand  , but i will not get under it. I reach under with an impact to take the blade bolts off to sharpen the blades.  Yes i might b parotid, but have been doing it this way for over 20 years. Just me i guess.

Your easy to understand video is very well done,

It's a fantastic idea that works.

I would consider getting a foldable frame with 3500 pounds of weight holding ability to attach your pully to.

What you got appears to work. However, from truck driving and such Murphys law is always peeing around the corner, and God forbid, but if the frame in the ceiling gave just a little.. bye-bye, good guy. Your family would likely not get to collect any life insurance as they would claim you were careless and a big contributor to the accident.

I also worked in law enforcement for 40 years, and I have seen insurance companies look for any reason to deny a claim.

I pray for God you never have to find out.

Yes, I am a preacher as well.  😁
