Awesome man I needed a fresh video on this. I know many people will find this useful. I have never backed one of my stones and do want to try it out. There are a few that need it in order to be worked.
Thank you very much for this video. This is going t o help me a TON with my current project! I've been trying to find the perfect backing and I think this might be it! Much appreciated!
Also, put it in a zip lock baggie and mix it in there by squuzing/rolling, as you would when coloring icing. Then snip off a corner and squeeze it onto the stone as if you were icing a cookie. Go in circles until you have covered the entire back.
Water Weld is fiberglass based rather than steel based.
Water weld is completely water resistant.
Because water weld is white, you could add one drop or two of water-based paint to it and give it any color you wanted.
Water weld cures in about 30 minutes.
Fiberglass does have its problems. Fiberglass could potentially be an irritant, if you grind it, and then breathe it. You must use water if you grind it.
Water Weld is very thick. You kneed it in your fingers, prior to use.
You would roll it into a small ball and then press the stone down onto it.
Thank you! We are mining turquoise in a few weeks in Nevada and I am looking forward to using this technique to back smaller/thinner stones for cutting. I don’t have any real experience with turquoise cutting yet.
