That vest came out SO well! Oh my gosh!! The inside really is as beautiful as the outside. It’s hard to believe that’s your first go at a busk. He looks great in it and he must have been so proud to wear it!! You should feel like a goddess (you are) and you made an amazing statement piece for someone you love.
The rule of thumb in quilting is that if you’re standing a yard away from a “flaw” and can’t see it, then it doesn’t exist.
The grommet debacle sounds like Adam and I trying to put snaps into some of Brady’s rompers. I’m considering a kam press at some point.

It looks great! I saw a tip on another channel about the busk - for the button side of the busk, when you're putting the holes in for them, you can use an awl to move the threads to make a hole large enough, rather than using a cut or a hole punch thing, and it will keep it from fraying and be stronger because the threads remain intact. I haven't tried it but it seemed like a good idea!

The corset looks really good, the fabric and colours complement each other.

You convinced me to purchase the patterns Caroline has, because I was nervous but seeing the finished product... I want vests and waistcoats for daily wear, and I think I can pull this off.

With grommets if they keep falling out that usually means that the holes for the grommets were too big. I generally gave the best luck if the grommets can barely just barely fit into the holes.

Adventures in grommets!  😁  The vest is stunning, and no, I don't think I'll be trying this out 😘  I love the color of the jaquard, and the contrast of the colors. It does have steam punk vibes.  Could totally add the goggles 😎 I had never heard of a busk? before, I was anxious to see what that was exactly.   It's so cool to get compliments and admiration from classmates!. You ARE special!

I've had some experience with grommets and boning..... both for costumes.  Burda 7977 is a period dress which drew comments of Maid Marian!! 14 pairs of grommets up the back and 6 pairs on each sleeve.  The instructions read "punch hole at markings and sew around"  No. Just no. I already had the pliers, and they went in fine.  The boning was on a petticoat pattern, and I only used Dritz boning with the channel.

Would love to make this for my own prom but sadly im too small for this pattern!
