idk mr. ed at $185 before tax it seems to be a gimmick. you could get much better value investing in another device. or even just stove top and cheesecloth would be better than this. if you didnt put that blue tissue there would be much more gunk in the bottom tray

The rod should be threaded with a wing nut to hold it all in place.

Mr Ed does product placement!  :)  Cool little machine.  It would be simple enough to melt them again, to make them into 'nice' blocks - the second time it wouldn't have the honey in it.

Jeff get an old bath propped off the ground a bit so you can get a pot underneath it and put an old glass door on top for a lid. It only works when its really warm but it does work.

It comes with a plastic coverage because it does not brake that easy during the transport. If you use a glas coverage it will be even more effective.

A solar wax melter is the easiest, most efficient, trouble free way I've tried to recover wax. I built mine from bits and pieces I had laying around. Mine is about double that size because it was made to fit the glass I had on hand. I put about a 5 degree tilt on my melting tray which allows the wax to slowly run off leaving the slum gum behind on the tray. I have an 1/8 inch hardware cloth screen at the end but it doesn't do much because the solids don't run down with the wax. It'll hold about 5 gallons of scrap comb. I get really clean wax with almost no trash, plenty good enough to wax foundations with. If you put a little water in your catch pan it will deal with the honey residue and make the block turn loose of the pan easier. It's sure easier, more efficient, and a lot less messy than the other methods I've tried.

Jeff....  You know your "over-selling" a plastic box, with a plastic lid, and a couple of baking rays..?!?!?  Yeh??!!!   😉  😊  😀

nice wax melter but you did't put web, for them  god bless you brother

Interesting, but Ill stick with just buying a used roaster from the thrift store for 30 bucks.  Good for at least 5-6 years & no shipping.

Mr Ed, I am not a fan of the solar melter you gave a try, I have built my own one a decade ago from a salvaged hood of a Prius (Aluminum) placed a lot of insulation under in a box, slightly elevated and placed stainless steel mesh  2/3 the way, in a collection tray I put some water so wax won’t stick to the bottom, we do a lot of bee removal and also scrapings from own hives beings a lot of traffic to my solar waz melter, little bulky but does the job well
Hoping you all safe after the Helena hits the east

Nice and simple. a black plastic tote would really kick it along.

Very beautiful caskets jeff. I bet they look beautiful stained

Casually presenting in front of four caskets gives gravitas.

I really did appreciate you taking the time to make this video
I’m learning a lot even
After 30+ years of owning my own pest control company, which we’ve always had a call list of beekeeper
I find this product demonstrated very useful
I’ll be looking to get one
Thank you, Mr. Ed

Interesting concept, but seems kind of gimmicky and I think it would be way too inconsistent and slow to use for any sort of serious production. I also don't think that lid would be very easy to keep clean/sanitary, and edges of the melting tray look kind of sharp (on camera, at least). The fact that those corners leaked is also a sign of poor quality by the manufacturer.

I bet you could DIY something similar but much larger and better on your own. Could even get creative and do like a solar water heater system, combined with something like a hydronic radiant flooring system if you're looking for a good experiment to put on YouTube.

Perhaps the most efficient would be to just charge a battery with solar panels and run an electrical wax melter off of that. And you would get the added benefit of being able to store electricity for use on rainy/overcast days and/or directing any excess electricity towards other purposes. Would make for some interesting content to do a comparison of different DIY builds and see how they stack up against what's available in the market.

I'm full of ideas if you couldn't tell since I've joined this channel, lol. I could be like you idea guy if you wanted to hire me for that. Would be like a dream job for me to be able to do that for someone inventive like yourself, but I won't kid myself - you probably already have too many of your own ideas to keep up with - never mind mine! 😆

Awesome video Jeff that unit looks like it would also work with a hot plate underneath the pan when you don’t have any sunshine

What i love about solar wax melters is what they do to the African small hive beetles. I put all my bad combs in there, and the beetles squeeze in and lay eggs in the warm old combs in the evening. By the next afternoon they are cooked. Also i like to drop beetle infested combs in there. None of those larvae ever made it to the ground. Simple.

Please be mindfull that polibicarbonate shatter's esily.

Just a thought.  If you took sawdust from the shop and that trash from the rendering you could make some nice fireplace/camping logs.
