I see Dr. Mel as Autistic as well. Going outside when overwhelmed, visually stimming when needing a moment, and while emotionally connected, felt relief when needing to do a visual task in removing gravel from a leg.

I’m so glad to hear empathy finally for Santos
I know someone who was heavily abused as a child and acted just like her!!!
Of course no excuse for the bad things she does, but it’s a clear explanation for why she is the way she is

Re. the episode 1 & 15 rooftop scenes, here’s how Noah Wyle commented on them:
“Abbot (is) a guy who likes to flirt with the idea of danger, because he’s come so close to it, it makes him feel alive to flirt with death; and that’s actually what sends him back home, is looking into the abyss. Robby is the opposite of that: Robby is now thinking that the abyss looks a lot better than home; and that’s what he gets from the Abbot character: of course you, because of what of you've just been through…you just proved that you’re human, not that you were fallible."

I spent 5 years in EMS starting right before I turned 18. Watching Dr. Mike and now you reacting to THE PITT has shown me that my time as a responder had left a large impact on my mental health. I have wanted to brush off a lot as not PTSD, but hard to deny that when I have experienced exactly how you described flashbacks. Been out of EMS now 5 years. Still working through a lot of what I saw and still on the search for the right doctor to talk with. Thank you for the kind reminder to get back to work on that.

Re. the Dr. Santos character, yes the show eventually anchored her annoying personality quirks in a history of childhood sexual abuse. But that's not the only trauma that leads someone to a pattern of pushing people away - any form of early, chronic betrayal of trust and safety will do. And frankly, other forms of abuse are far more common.

It's also good to consider that while the behavior may become pathological, like so many presented in The Pitt, it served a purpose that was, or is, necessary at some point. Just as Robbie's ability to bury his emotions allowed him to provide leadership and crisis management when it was crucial to avoid distraction.

What you said about people using "what if" scenarios to avoid feeling grief and delay accepting loss at around 6:20 was very helpful to hear. Upon reflection, I think this is a way of thinking that I've struggled with when it comes to loss and regret I've experienced. So thank you for that.

This is a tangent, but thank you for 2:45. I have moments of "forced memories" where a memory of a time resurfaces and sort of forces itself to the front of my mind, like a surprise trumpet, and i never liked describing it as flashbacks. Now i know why.

I love the fact that you consistently connect the doctor's experiences to every day folks. It's almost like doctors are people too and have their own experiences and set of emotions that they work with every day.

I dont usually take time to comment on yt videos, but I just wanted to express how much I appreciate your videos. You seem like such a genuine nice person and I love hearing you speak about mental health. I myself struggle a lot with mental health at age 37 and have my whole life. Got diagnosed last year with severe adhd, light autism, hpi, depression, generalized anxiety disorder and got divorced, whilst moving into a new house and my second son being born just to then have to move again due to the divorce.
PS: i also love your style, how you match your glasses, watches and clothing. Very unique and cool.

Thanks for posting again! Watching your videos and just your overall demeanor is honestly very comforting. I'm a retired LE from a major city (I'm sure you can guess which from my avatar), so I've seen and experienced everything you've covered here in this from my own experience and through witnessing others. It's amazing how alike our brains are in terms of trauma, but very different in terms of how we deal with it individually. I have my own demons I have to deal with daily, including a severe lifelong injury, so this all hits very close to home for me. I know you cover the spectrum of analysis from movies/tv so I'd love to see breakdowns of mental health from police shows/movies (but I may be a tad biased there).

Thank you so much for talking abt more than just Robbie. Thank you for talking about Mel, Santos, Dana, and Mohan. They are never brought up when it comes to portraying mental health. I hope for the next season, you will make another video, talking about more characters.
