the internet probably needs to learn/re-learn that it's OKAY to sit out of taking a side if there isn't clear evidence for something, and it is in NO WAY the same as siding against alleged victims. "believe victims" is just supposed to mean "don't needlessly call victims liars, help them feel safe sharing their experiences." but because of the long history and modern examples of victims being shut down, people have over-corrected and take any claim of SA and the like as gospel.

It’s insane to me how there genuinely needs to be a 14 minute video explaining to the internet why it might be a good idea to withhold judgement until we have more concrete evidence of these allegations. Then again, asking the internet to approach something with a level-headed mindset seemed doomed to be a fruitless endeavor from the start lmao.

The fact that they said there is evidence but provided none is indeed very fishy.

We should take serious accusations like these with the seriousness they deserve but also be aware that jumping the gun too early could ruin someone's life. Dave should address this asap tho, because silence is damning and he's already been silent for too long.

Edit: won't be replying anymore because some people in the replies are making me sick. Justifying dating children is where I draw the line.

My favorite musician was cancelled, kicked out of his band and banned on some social media platforms. He went silent for a year and then came back with receipts disproving all of the mental abuse, assault and racism claims made against him, even the accuser then admitted to lying for clout. People have largely forgotten about it, but even now, some people still refuse to accept his social media presence because his image was tainted. Cancel culture is all fucked.

“Hey, maybe don’t jump the gun on serious allegations that might ruin someone’s life based on insubstantial evidence in a developing situation” is such a low bar and yet…

edit: I am AGREEING with the contents of the video. I think it’s admirable he went searching to find his own information. I think his points are correct. I was seconding the notion. Good lord.

I just want to say that I love how grounded and neutral you are, instead of watching someone destroy another's name, I was presented with clear evidence and honesty as to what IS out there and what IS the situation instead of assuming everything is right.

Doing gods work here, man. I’m no fan of boyinaband either, but helping the internet become more skeptical and neutral about situations like this is always a plus. No one’s livelihood deserves to be wrecked by a rumor.

These kind of situations are always so messy and awful no matter how you slice it. Trying to balance "taking allegations seriously" with "not jumping to conclusions" is a very fine line that just about anyone can find themselves on the wrong side of with just even a tiny bit of bias. It's almost impossible for uninvolved people to form a defensible position without someone coming forward and putting their name, face, and reputation behind their claim. If nothing else, it really makes me respect the courage of the men and women who do, in spite of the inevitable backlash.

I've always found it weird how it's innocent until proven guilty unless you're a public figure and someone anonymous comes forward with completely unproven accusations of abuse.

I literally had this urge to look him up two weeks ago. I don't know why I felt compelled but it had been ages. I noticed he still hasn't uploaded since his last video two years ago. I told myself, "I bet he's going to come back soon, this always happens when I decide to look up someone who was on a hiatus". Yeah, this is not what I had in mind...

I've been waiting for someone to point out the lack of evidence without completely dismissing the victims or invalidating their experiences, you did a great job.
