Who Drilled This Hole... and Why?

Sometimes the best discoveries have nothing to do with what your metal detector finds.
I was deep in the New Hampshire woods, relic hunting with my Fisher F19 and following old stone walls from long-forgotten colonial farms. As I worked my way through the forest, I picked up a few good signals, found an old coin, a beautifully preserved glass jar, and eventually stumbled onto what appeared to be an old wagon road. Even after all these years, you can still read the landscape if you slow down and pay attention.
Then something completely unexpected caught my eye.
One of the massive stones in the wall had a perfectly round drilled hole in it. There were no cellar holes nearby, no obvious quarry, and nothing to explain why someone would drill into a stone way out here in what was once open pasture. It immediately made me stop and wonder... who drilled it, and what was its purpose?
Moments like this are why I love exploring forgotten places. Sometimes the biggest mystery isn't what comes out of the ground—it's what has been sitting in plain sight for more than a hundred years.
If you enjoy relic hunting, metal detecting, exploring old New England farms, forgotten roads, stone walls, and trying to read the stories hidden in the landscape, I think you'll enjoy this adventure.
About Not Thursday
Not Thursday is about exploring forgotten places, reading the landscape, and discovering the stories left behind. Whether I'm relic hunting with a metal detector, walking abandoned railroad grades, following colonial stone walls, or simply wandering into the unknown, every adventure is another chance to see the past from a different perspective.
