Do the Right Thing (1989)
Let me tell you the story of Right Hand, Left Hand. It's a tale of good and evil. Hate: it was with this hand that Cain iced his brother. Love: these five fingers, they go straight to the soul of man. The right hand: the hand of love. The story of life is this: static. One hand is always fighting the other hand, and the left hand is kicking much a**. I mean, it looks like the right hand, Love, is finished. But hold on, stop the presses, the right hand is coming back. Yeah, he got the left hand on the ropes, now, that's right. Ooh, it's a devastating right and Hate is hurt, he's down. Left-Hand Hate KOed by Love.

Love Ossie Davis and Ruby Dee in this playing two people who are at each other throats until the end of the film when in reality they were married for 40+ years

The opening of Rosie Perez dancing to "fight the power" is a great way to kick it off.

8:44 - "What a lively street, everyone's out today."

In the city, before the internet, many people did this. The world was a much different place...and I miss it.

Da Mayor and Mother Sister were played by real-life couple/thespians: Ossie Davis and Ruby Dee.

The love and hate scene is based on a similar scene from a horror noir movie called Night of the Hunter, one of Spike Lee's favorite films

I lived in Brooklyn when the film first opened. I went to see the film on opening weekend (in Times Square) and when we exited Spike Lee was outside waiting to greet people and answer questions. Do the Right Thing was a slice of life, it reflected what was really happening at the time.

One of my all-time favorite films! This is a masterpiece, in my opinion. I think I've seen this about 10 times and I could watch it 10 more. It's just so good, Spike Lee is an amazing filmmaker! The opening dance scene with Rosie Perez is one of my favorite openings to a movie ever! I just love this movie lol.

Spike Lee's Summer of Sam is another summer themed movie based around the Son of Sam killer in NYC.

I always appreciate the casting of Giancarlo Esposito as Buggin’ Out. As an actor of Italian and Black heritage, it adds a little extra to the story’s tensions.

This is one of my favorite Spike Lee films y'all should react to "Malcolm X" Spike and Denzel did great with that.

I saw this when it first came out, and it seemed like everyone left the theater speechless and in a daze. So incredibly powerful.

Hey Arnold S1 E6 "Heat" is an homage to "Do The Right Thing" and I never knew that until film analysis class in high school but it's one of my favorite Hey Arnold episodes.

Not too many times you can say a movie is 'important'. This movie is important. I saw it with film school buddies when it came out and we were blown away and we argued all the way home. It's a movie that's only gotten better with time - and now it's a genuine classic.

This film captures the hot days of almost every neighborhood in the boroughs of NYC in the late 80s. It was a powder keg that exploded a LOT. There was so much tension. Spike did an amazing job capturing the vibe of the times.

RIP to the Oscar nominated Danny Aiello, a really nice guy who spent a lot of time in his former neighborhood of Ramsey, NJ.

Spike Lee's third film. He has said he didn't know what he was doing until he made this one. And, in my opinon? It is his masterpiece.

In case no-one else has mentioned, Spike Lee’s father Bill Lee, an accomplished jazz musician, composed the music for many of his films, including this one. His sister Jade is portrayed by his real-life sister Joie Lee. Masterpiece film
