This is the first twelve issues of Garth Ennis's legendary run on The Punisher which reintroduced him to the marvel universe in 2000 after being dead and serving the angels as a supernatural hero, which all agreed was the character's lowest point. Garth brought him back to his true form starting with about 3 years of the Marvel Knights series you'll see here and followed by several years of a more mature and serious series, Punisher Max. In this 12 issue miniseries preceding the monthly book, Frank lets New York know he's back by taking down the Gnucci crime family, bottom to top. Many elements such as Frank's neighbors and The Russian were adapted into the Thomas Jane Punisher film, but not the story itself. Garth writes Frank perfectly, not too serious and grim, a man at peace with who he is and what he does, there will be no soul searching in these pages. Just Frank doing what he does best, cleaning up the city and taking out the trash, in classic Ennis style, with fantastic and expressive art by Steve Dillon, who would remain for most of the Marvel Knights run.
