Venom helped create an entire genre — but the money behind the band tells a very different story.

In 1980, Venom recorded six songs for just £50. The band went on to release the album Black Metal, inspire generations of extreme metal, and become a major influence on Metallica and the emerging thrash scene. Yet according to drummer Abaddon, the three members were receiving just £30 a week in royalties.

So who actually owned Venom?

This video follows the money behind the legendary band — from Neat Records and the ownership of its master recordings to touring, merchandise, the Venom logo, and the bitter legal battle that eventually reached the High Court.

With Cronos dying in September 2026, the story of Venom's money and ownership has taken on a very different meaning.
