I bought an abandoned classic Jaguar Mk10 that has been sitting for 15 years to ask the simple question: can us regular folk revive a classic car? Will this old car run and drive?

Apologies for the jerky camera movement in the first half of the video. I didn’t realise until it was too late that the in-camera stabilisation had been accidentally turned off. It does get better once I realised!

I've been an engineer for over fifty years and you took on a job that I've seen experienced mechanics walk away from. Well done!

50 years ago the owner’s manual of a car showed you how to adjust the valves. Today it warns you not to drink the contents of the battery.

Sun is out, the wife and baby are keeping you company while you work on a proper old Jag. You are living the dream. Congrats, you deserve it.

I haven’t finished watching your maintenance of the braking system yet but years ago I had a problem with the hydraulic braking system on a motorcycle & someone passed on a tip to me that worked perfectly. If you already know this tip, fine, but you may have viewers that it could help.
No matter how I tried, I could not get a really good solid ‘feel’ to the twin disc brakes on a motorcycle that I had restored. The brake worked but as I was slowing down the brake lever was gradually becoming ‘softer’ until it had reached the handlebar & ‘pumping’ was required. I had tried everything that I could think of but I was left with a spongy feel to the front brake. A knowledgeable gentleman said “apply the brake & fasten the brake lever back to the handlebars so that the brake is on. Top up the master cylinder & leave it overnight.” I applied the brake & zip tied the brake lever to the handlebars, topped up the reservoir & left it overnight.
Without much hope, the next morning I cut the zip ties off to find that the front brake worked perfectly & had a wonderfully sound feel to it. I had similar trouble with a Reliant Scimitar hydraulic clutch. I applied the clutch & held it applied with a piece of broom handle between the pedal & the drivers seat. It worked a treat. I can only think that it holds a valve / passageway open in the master cylinder, that allows trapped air to return to the reservoir. If it helps one person, it will have saved an indescribable frustration. Richard.

All Jags use electric fuel pumps & the ones with twin fuel tanks such as the Mk 10 & 420G have two fuel pumps. You desrerve a medal for taking on that car without detailed Jagaur mechanical knowledge.

Honestly, I love the fact that you have taken the time to research using the Jaguar Service manuals but also, the fact that you have purchased text books to teach yourself and have really put the time into doing these cars is really impressive. Plenty of us rooting for you down here in sunny Canterbury.

One day you're gonna have your own unit with a proper lift and all the tools and kit and would love to see what builds you pull off.

The Mark 10 Jag is a proper 'gangsta's' car. Such a massive but sleek car that looks like its moving even when its stationary . Good luck !

I think you need to give the boys at Tom Lenthall a phone call.

Working on an old Jag in that condition is WAY different to a USA V8. For starters you can walk into an O'Riellys and get almost anything for a pushrod V8. You picked an almost specialist vehicle to try it out on. We owned a MK10 for years I love them, theres 2 for sale here in WA Western Australia right now.

41:05 That's a feeling you won't ever get, with a 60 year old EV.

I remember very many years ago, a customer was in the shop where I worked and he heard I had a parcel to deliver to another customer, he offered very kindly to drive me to where the customer I needed to go to lived.
When I got outside the shop there was this fabulous Mk 10 Jaguar. To me sitting in this was like being in an aircraft cockpit and the wonderful sound and the comfort was astounding.
Never had one but loved them ever since so all good wishes on the restoration of this beauty!

I nearly had a heart attack when you sat in front of the wire wheels and swung the lump hammer.

Call her The Texan.I am a born and raised Texan. That Jag has the battle scars from living inTexas under the brutal Texas sun.She don't have a lot of rust so she may be from my part of the state in north Texas. or west Texas.
