Pepeday came onto the scene late, but it wasn't without flash. Using the extremely underused character, El Fuerte, he came out of nowhere in one of the best grand finals ever.

Is this where Poongko got the idea for his own Fuerte later on?
Dont remember who he played but he switched to Fuerte to cheese out the last win in a set and got loudly booed by the crowd for it lol.

Pepeday put El Fuete on the map. Everyone that plays him now takes a page out of the book Pepeday wrote on him. Same with Poonko. Poonko made Seth a killer. Now all SF4 Seth players use Poonko's playbook. What crazy is both of these characters were considered trash till these two players came along and showed us something different...

This was such a legendary set. That small crowd sounded like a thousand people. Mike Ross and the other commentator were just going mental the entire time.

that Canada Cup match has the greatest SF4 round ever for me, when Poongko ultra'd to avoid Pepeday's Ultra and it all went to chaotic scramble

Pepeday was my hero as a scrubby little fuerte main back in the day.

i think you need to mention the main change that changed everything was the changes to his ex quesdilla bomb. it wasn't as though pepeday suddenly rose out of nothingness, he was playing before that but struggled against all the other players until capcom released the new balance changes

El Fuerte was the ultimate "This Character Is Cheap Based On Vibes" situation. People didn't understand how bad he was because they couldn't handle mix ups. It made R. Mika a target in sf5 for being "Fuerte but good"

One of the greatest SF4 sets ever. Poongko v Pepeday. I watched this live. Shoutouts to my fellow monsters.

I was excited to watch Pepe at any tournament and boy he couldn't disappoint, and when he did, we all know what tier does Fuerte lies in.

sf4 days had lots of player who's known for their mastery of the character, and their name are synomonous with the character themselves. Pepedey's El Fuerte, Xian's Gen, Latif's C.Viper, Smug's Dudley, Poongko's Seth, Justin Wong's Rufus, Gamerbee's Adon, etc...

Fun fact: This breakdown of the match is much harder to follow than the actual match because I swear there was actually no rhyme or reason to it in real time.

Hit box El Fuerte would be crazy

PAPALOBSTER FACE REVEAL AT THE END?!?! 🦞 🕶️

@cuecrunch 8 months ago

low tiers used to be unique enough to make players push them like this instead of just playing the best characters since everyone has the same toolkit anyway, what a gigachad

It's something with Bonchan in TGS he beat top players who uses top tier characters but loses to players who mostly play online or in arcade with mid or low tier characters.
