I had one of those as a kid.

I can still hear the sound of that engine in my head and in my dreams.

Dad bought a XL350 when they came out. It’s still in the family running strong.

In 73 I worked for Hammersley Iron in Australia , when a kid bought one new and road it 129 miles to the coast. and he promptly sold it to me and took the train home.  That was the best little bike I owned. Love the story. and it sounds great.

What a "blast from the past" for me!  I had that exact same year and model - even down to the color that I used to commute to college and general around town and trail riding in the late '80s. It was wonderful to hear the familiar sound and view from the cockpit that brought back long forgotten memories. Unfortunately, that bike met its demise when a car made a left turn in front of me.  I took a 10-year hiatus from motorcycling or being a "high speed pedestrian" until resuming upon moving to a more rural area and bought a Moto Guzzi.

I had a later 1981 XL185 in Ireland as an 18 year old. It was my everything bike and it I loved it more than any bike before or since. That 175 is BEAUTIFUL!

I bought a new 74 XL 35O when I was twenty. It was the most fun I ever had on a motorcycle.

I grew up in the 70’s! We used to ride dirt bikes all the time! We all had Honda’s!  The XL, SL, XR, even the CT70 and Z50! We had everything back then! Those were the best years of my life! And that Honda sound, it just takes me back! 🏍️🛵🏍️🛵!😁

On my 13th birthday. I bought a 1974 XL 100. It was my first motorcycle. $700 out the door. And a free helmet.
It was unbelievably durable, dependable, and maintenance free. I rode it everywhere and anywhere. Wish I still had it.

Dad bought a '72 XL250 new for $800.  Was a competitive enduro racer in the 250 expert class.  Rode along side many world class riders such as Dick Burleson, the Penton team, Carl Cranke and Malcolm Smith.  He loved his XL and it gained him numerous trophies and is still in the family.  I have a '72 XL250 as well and love it!

Who remembers when Dirt Bike magazine tested these 175's when they first came out?

They had the cover shot, of the 175 in a pig pen, with a pig.  Over 300 lb 175 with about 14 horsepower.
A wallow hog of a bike.   And now via youtube the best dual sport ever made!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

My first bike was a ‘76 Elsinore MR50, 2 stroke. Same color scheme as this bike. I was 9 when I got it. My older brother had the ‘76 Elsinore 125 street legal version. It was silver and green. Great times.

Imagine having a brand new on of these at 13years old, and it was street legal under my Fathers name! I could get 70MPH out of it on a flat road, it was low, and heavy, dependable beyond belief!

I bought a brand new 1975 just like this when i was 15 years old. Oh, the stories i could tell! Fun bike! I sold i 16:45 t for an IT175 two years later. The XL was a great chapter in my motorcycle history.

I've owned many bikes over the years but I recently saw a 2014 XL200 that was super-clean with very low mileage, and I just had to buy it!! I also have a BMW GSA 1150 as well as a BMW Dakar 650, so my wife thought I'd gone nuts buying this "new to me" little bike. Truth is it's a great little bike for taking offroad, trail riding, or riding a single tracks!! I'm 66 now and I'm finding my bigger BMW's a bit too heavy and tall for the technical stuff now. This is where the little XL slots in perfectly! It's such a reliable and functional little bike - I just love it! Warm greetings from South Africa!

that was a great era to be alive and riding owned a couple Honda's XL's and one Yamaha DT rode many other bikes.  Many the manufacturers in the mid 70's were trying hard to put out quality affordable rides.  Enjoyed your ride thanks for posting

I had a '74 model XL100 when I was 12. I put that bike through hell, and it never let me down. I think I remember my dad paying $499.00 for it brand new.
