They're not a casual dog. And I absolutely DO NOT recommend them for first time owners. Jenna was lucky -- Axel seems pretty calm for a Mal (mine is too).
Ours sleeps close to me (on the floor). If I get up, she's instantly awake.
First she will blow air out of her mouth. Then, if the person comes closer she will flap her jaws, next she will set back on her haunches. That is the last move before launching at the perpetrator. She has hit 5 people with her muzzle because they have refused to stop.
