Has your cat ever dropped a dead mouse, bird, or other animal at your feet? Many people assume it's a gift — a strange but affectionate present from their cat.

But that may not be what's happening at all.

Cats are natural hunters, and their habit of carrying prey home may be connected to instincts inherited from their wild ancestors. So why do they bring their catches to us? Are they trying to teach us how to hunt? Are they looking for a safe place to store their prey? Or have they simply learned that humans react to what they bring home?

In this documentary, we explore the different explanations behind one of the strangest behaviors of domestic cats — from hunting instincts and maternal behavior to territory, safety, social learning, and the unique relationship between cats and humans.

And the most surprising part? There may not be just one answer. Different cats may bring prey home for completely different reasons.
