Me: "It's not chalk full, its choc-full"

Also me doing research: "Apparently it's chock-full and chock is a wedge/block to balance something and make it motionless. So if a room is chock-full, then no motion can take place inside it hence why we use it."

“Wait till I tell my parents I met an animal abuser!” is such an out of pocket line yet perfect line

I think it's worth noting that Jodie's parents are black conservatives who are very touchy about the way white people perceive them, especially with regard to things like their views on affirmative action and welfare. It makes a lot of sense for Jodie to have internalised that attitude and be self conscious about receiving "hand-outs" even when she isn't.

I always thought that the whole saga with Daria, Tom, and Jane was something that humanized Daria which was so needed for her character. She wasn’t a mouthpiece or the only voice of reason; she was a teenager who made an impulsive decision and had to face the fallout from it.

Also I fully agree that Tom needed more time to stand on his own instead of being part of an attached set to Daria and/or Jane. He got introduced rather late in the show and really didn’t get his own time to develop which is a real shame since he bounced off of Daria and Jane so well. I think he should have been a transfer student into Lawndale instead of a private school like Ted.

At some point, Shady will eventually need to start doing videos on Beavis & Butt-head... complete the 'Mike Judge' holy trinity

Pro Tip: Keep a designated roll of last resort in your bathroom.  Only use it if there are no others left and replace it as soon as possible if you do.

Guys, imma be Real right now. I went to the doctor earlier today. They said I have Bell's palsy. I'm taking medication for for it and they said it'll last a couple of weeks. But seeing shady upload a new video brings a half-smile to my face. But a full one in my heart. Keep the good work

Quick update: Thank you all for the kind words and support. It truly means a lot. Thankfully my bell's palsy went away and I  have all movement in the right side of my face. Again, thanks everyone.🙏🏿♥️

As someone in high school the same time as when Daria aired, Jodi's racial identity was topical. A lot of black kids, especially like Jodi, struggled a lot. Our parents grew up in the Civil Rights era and instilled to work 200% harder. If you exhibited any sort of intellect, you were showcased like a museum exhibit but in a patronizing way. It made sense and was relatable to us back then.

Honestly I wouldn't be surprised if Jodie and Mack were voted King and Queen constantly by merit alone. Their both very social, very friendly in a genuine way, do a lot for their school via sports or volunteering and are considered good looking by a number of characters. I'm not saying race isn't a factor, but they seem like shoe ins either way.

Jane showing up to take pictures reminds me of an actual thing that happened when I was in college. Once a year, we had a concert on campus. Pretty much everything else was closed that day, and it was never on a day with classes. The vast majority of students would show up and get wasted on both alcohol and whatever drugs they could score. As someone who hates crowds and loud noises, I (and most of my friends) would usually come up with ways to avoid it, but since it was 30 feet from my dorm, that meant getting up early and finding somewhere to hide.

One year, I actually went out of curiosity/desire to find food with everything else closed, and ran into a friend of mine who was really into writing his own music and creating art of all kinds. He'd noticed that pretty much every school club, department, etc. had their own shirt for the event, so he was surreptitiously taking photos of as many shirt backs as he could to make a photo collage. It was actually really fun helping him find designs he hadn't snapped yet and talking about the project (although I fled as soon as the music got too loud).

"Its about racism and I'm Black." Dude I straight up snorted to that line!

Tom is a manic pixie dreamgirl

I think Tom was always more interested in Daria. Jane was just more assertive and Daira didn't think boys would be attracted to her. She needed to attend that self-esteem workshop.

In regard to the homecoming king and queen, I found that a strange mix of " just be happy about the good thing" and "I know how they feel." I know in a TV show, we only see select moments, but it's pretty natural to have shifting emotions in regard to a positive perceived as happening due to a negative, and it's pretty natural to focus on that negative while feeling dressed up and put on display in a parade.

I think their being chosen was also less "the town lacks diversity" and more "everyone, look who we selected, aren't we progressive", but maybe they say otherwise in the actual episode.

So, I've always loved Tom, faults and all, but I feel like he should have been introduced earlier in the series as just another character and not a  love interest.

Like, all the drama with Tom still happens, but he has at least a season or two to build up his autonomy as a character first.

Then in later seasons, it would make sense for Tom to have his own separate storylines, as he would have been well established by that time.

3:43 this is doubly funny because Daria joked that her dad would be under the magazine, when really it’s the other way around

I love the scene where Jodie is complaining about her privilege but then sees a girl admiring her making her feel pride being there. She even stood up to wave just for her. It's such a short scene but it was memorable.

It’s so strange but I feel like Daria analysis videos are coming up more frequently now. Maybe it’s just my feed but I’m so glad other ppl actually watch it besides my mom 20 years ago lol

1:08 Are we gonna ignore the fact that Quinn is so calm, and not so full of herself HOURS before the Parade? A Parade she is IN? Like, why Quinn isn't talking about it like she does all the time, and just looking for a magazine!?

If you get caught on your toilet without toilet paper just have a quick shower.
