Back when I got into home theatre PCs, I was often pointed to the Logitech K400 Plus as the best couch keyboard option... But that was released back in 2015. In this video, I go through a few different options that might be able to dethrone it.

The left click button on the k400 is underrated. I use it all the time.

I've been using the Logitech K400 as my couch keyboard for over a year. It is reliable, it has great range, it has a great trackpad, and although the keys are a bit cheap feeling, they always work, and the only thing I ever use them for is to search for videos. Here's the best thing about this keyboard: I have been using it every day for over a year, and have never turned it off, and the batteries have never died!

The most important feature is the mouse button on the left side of the K400. I use the trackpad with my thumb when browsing.
I feel like this is the best feature the K400 has.

The cheapest alternative is installing the Bluetooth keyboard and mouse app on your Android phone. Works flawlessly

“Or bed keyboard if you’re so RECLINED.” Fixed it for you. 😜

The K400+ is still the king of couch keyboards for me. I have one in the living room and another in the basement cinema room, and they continue to do the job perfectly.

Framework is coming out with a couch keyboard soon. Might have to revisit this in the near future!

Now to watch and see if it was brought up.

18:05 yeah exactly, i love that the k400 is easy to grab with one hand and not press something. K400 4 LIFE! 💪

My Logitech K400 Plus is a little more than 8 years old now. It's been dropped, thrown, kicked, stepped on, doused with drinks, handled by cheeto fingers, chewed on by three toddlers, and slobbered on by dogs ...and toddlers. It is used every day. The battery life is amazing, the range is great, and the responsiveness is fantastic. In terms of maintenance, weekly I shake out any crumbs and use a wet wipe. I honestly don't remember the last time that I had to replace the batteries. I have had to open it up to clean it twice, after it drank too much, but that thing is a beast and it's still going strong!

The only thing that it needs is a backlight, which I would be willing to trade some of it's amazing battery life for.

I've tried a good 3rd of the kayboards here and agree, especially that last point about not being able to grab the thing without accidental inputs!
I ended up loving the pepper jobs W10 gyro air mouse (but it's since been discontinued)! Having a remote with a keyboard in the back was great since you could just toss it around and not worry about accidental inputs.

I've since moved to using the Steam Controller as my main HTPC interface, as you can use a touch pad or gyro for the mouse, and I find typing with the on screen keyboard (using dual touchpads) good enough.

the big yellow right click button of the K400 in the upper left corner for where your thumb goes is a weirdly convenient feature

Greetings from Denmark - Thanks for a really great comparison. Your energy and vibe rubs off on us all. After 2 years with the K400 and a constant struggle to get a range of over 1 meter from my PC, I finally AI'ed my problem and I got the result back - DON'T place the USB thingy in a USB3 port!!! And after switching it to the correct USB2 port - PEW, I have spent the best part of my morning couch-surfing instead of desk-top surfing.

Thanks for a great video 🙂

I wish the big reputable manufacturers experimented with built in trackballs more. It seems like fitting a marble sized trackball and dedicated scroll wheel onto a couch keyboard would be easier than a full track pad

Excellent video. Please do an update / part-2 sometime!

Backlit is something that is also super important, and many of these don't have it.

@mistertwo6113 3 months ago

What about the "accidentally sat on it" test? So I'm going w the Rii K22 and tape a 'grab' handle in order to pick it up.

@thebigbread42 3 months ago

6:20 the 5V @ 500ma is referring to the input voltage/amperage (charging rate); not necessarily the battery capacity. Although in this case, it does happen to have a 500mah battery

100%, the K400's killer feature is that left-hand mouse click. So easy to drag & drop, multiselect, etc., when you have an entire hand and a physical button dedicated to just holding left click.

@jasonames7452 3 months ago

The only thing that could dethrone the K400+ is a K400++ that has a scroll wheel next to the mouse button on the top left so you can navigate web pages with just your thumbs.
