"Buy the best coin you can afford".  Love that!  Nice to see you on camera.  I do not think I'm that brave.

LOVE FROM SERBIA!
ALL THE BEST.

My grandmother tried to get e into coins in the mid 89’s when I was a kid but I was never interested.  And I’d come across silver coins in change and didn’t care much and would spend it.  Then years after my grandmother passed I started getting interested in gold and silver and my mother gave me some silver coins my grandmother had kept and it started a hobby for me that I wish I had shared with my grandmother when she was alive.  I heard that she had sold a bunch of her good coins but she still left behind around 100 oz. In junk silver.  20 Morgan’s which are my favorites.   I went through every coin with a fine tooth comb and was learning what to look for and I did come across a 1934 DDO silver quarter.   I wish I knew if my grandmother knew that it was an error coin.  It’s in rough shape.  But for the grade I think it would get it should be worth at least $150. So I took every coin and got a book full of sleeves to out the coins in.  Now it’s my collection.   I love it.  And over the last few years I’ve bought 80 ounces of silver.   I’ve also went through many boxes of quarters looking for errors.  I’ve found a bunch with die chips and stuff and sold them on eBay.  Pretty cool to get $50 for a quarter here and there.  Still have not found anything of crazy value.  Hopefully someday.  I’m not into paying for graded coins.  I like the a lot but if I’m spending my money I try to buy as much silver for as cheap as possible.   I buy a lot of silver rounds and bars.  Every now and then I’ll pick up a silver half dollar or a Morgan and add to the collection.   My grandmother would have loved for me to have this passion when I was younger and she was alive.

46 year old Bosnian living in Australia since 95. Started collecting coins in mid eighties as a geography wunderkind in my preteens. It was mostly forints, liras, zloty, Deutsch marks, schillings etc. Those were all base metal coins given to me for free by family or friends. Later in my twenties was buying on eBay silver coins from all over Europe from the start of 20th century, and was slowly spreading out getting older coins and an occasional gold coin. Now I own coins spanning the last 24 centuries and have made a yt channel with short videos of my numismatic portfolio.
Am very glad I did.

Great video.  It is always nice to see a video of someone passionate about their coin collecting while not trying to sell loupes or books and such.
I am not against anyone making money on their hobby, just the passion concerning coin collecting gets drowned out when other youtubers are selling their coin collecting products.
An honest discussion from a fellow collector is always appreciated.
Best of luck to you in your hunt for coins.

It's interesting how your 5 tips are true for other areas you choose to be successful. We refer to these as 'Critical Success Factors'. Thank you for this video!

Much appreciated 👍🪙💰

Special hobby can made us special friends.

Amazing points I learned them too late , I used to be an electrician on good money but I stopped collecting from when I started and restarted when I become very ill and couldn’t work again so can’t buy the coins which I know now like you said buy the best you can afford, long story short don’t leave it too late to buy the coins that make you feel proud to say you own , great video Dave

This is an amazing and useful video. For me, the first one is a bit hard because I’m only 13. However, I have built relationships with a guy at an antiques fair, a coin dealer in London, and online dealers. Sadly there’s no coin dealers in my city. But I still do have those relationships which are good to have.

The other points are also really useful, especially the one of having a focus. I have a habit of pulse buying any pre-decimal coin I see for a good price 😂.

Other than that, I do research a lot about British pre-decimal (what I collect) and make things such as spreadsheets to remember all of the varieties.

Anyway, brilliant video as always! Thanks for sharing your knowledge of coins to us

Thank you for the advice!Very helpful!

I enjoyed this video. Thank you for this valuable information.

I have also been collecting coins for years, but now I present them in a historical context.

Collector from Denmark here. Im fairly new and young in the game.  I appreciate the wisdom of an OG. Keep up please, Liked and subscribed !

Top tips.

New subscriber. Good information. Good luck with your channel!!

I like collecting pre-1960s constitutional silver and rounds. Also, war nickels and 1982 copper  pennies. It’s silly but it’s what I like! My wife doesn’t get my coin collecting either.

I like the constitutional silver, nickels and pennies because you can find them in great condition relatively cheap (and I love the history and I’m not afraid to handle/play with them.)

I collect rounds as an investment. Much more boring so I usually buy a little of both when I go to the shops.

Amazing advice, I've been collecting for about 3 years now and every thing said was very relatable. I especially liked the auction recommendations, I'll definitely check them out

Nice job 👏👏

Really interesting to hear your story in this fabulous hobby. You’ve inspired me to dip my feet in the collecting market which is so interesting. Great videos👍
